Funny, I'm from Oklahoma originally. I came to Iowa to visit a girl for two weeks. Five kids and forty years later still here freezing....

I think I could live in a pizza oven! I told my wife now that I am old I would like to move south. She said if I can bring all the grandchildren then she will agree. I tried that but my kids won't let me steal their kids for some reason.

Man I was in Austin back in Sept when that 108F heat wave was going on. Absolutely BRUTAL. It was all I could do to walk back and forth across the street between the convention center and my hotel. Brutal.

NEWS FLASH!!! It's not winter yet. I really like being able to exit my garage and bicycle 100+ miles within an 8 mile radius. No hills around by me, I just 53/12 or 50/11 stand and pedal 2 to 3 miles straight into a 10/20mph headwind.

Nice cold front just came thru and yesterday's early morning 127 mile ride was awesome! ---- https://www.relive.cc/view/1923728346

followed by the short afternoon ride ----- https://www.relive.cc/view/1923728287

Then there was last month's SOLO ride ---- https://www.relive.cc/view/1854645618

Yeah, I really do think it's gotten worse overall, but some years are better than others. This summer was BAD. I did virtually all of my riding at night or at dawn. Now that it's almost November, it's SO nice to be able to ride in the daytime again -- just in time for daylight savings to end. Grrr.

Plus, the traffic would be better if people like the OP didn't broadcast that FL is a great place to be.

IMO, riding early or riding late is best during the FL summer months.
Hold on, hold on. Florida sucks. I hate the place. There are two weeks of good weather, one to two months of tolerable. The rest is a firey inferno of a sauna that is not fit for anything but a mosquito. Even early or late most of the year is simply not tolerable, it never drops below 75 nor does the humidity get reasonable.
That said, I am here by 51% choice, but 49% being dragged from my mountain home kicking and screaming.

Despite being a cheerleader for winter and the variety of outdoor sports that go with it, I will admit that by mid-February I am a bit tired of feeding the wood stove. But, also by mid-February you really start to notice the days are getting longer and spring is on its way (in a couple months!).

I love winter and snow........

however all of these 'love/hate winter' topics really have me thinking. Life out of a van, 2-3 weeks in south FL, some panhandle, some TX, some NM, Some AZ chasing the perfect days..... Hmmm

Winters would be so much better if it never snowed on the roads. Just in the parks and ski hills.

Every Winter there are so many snow newbies driving in the snow for the first time....and without snow tires running on nearly bald "all seasons" getting into accidents. They ruin it for everyone during the commute.

Actually, a little bit of rain seems to have the same effect on these peeps from fair weather countries.....

Agreed - good tires make all the difference. I am fortunate enough to have AWD and 4 studded snow tires. This combo makes me a bit too confident at times, but I love blasting down an empty, snowy interstate highway at 5:30 on a Sunday morning heading for the slopes.

The only thing that spooks me in snowy road conditions are the homicidal Quebecois truckers who will do some truly insane driving on crowded roads in an 80000 lb. rig during the Sunday ride home. When I see them coming I simply get out of their way. (nothing against our Canadians friends the vast majority of whom are good snow drivers and friendly people!)

At the local ski area parking lot I regularly see a tricked-out AWD Mercedes Sprinter van (extended version). The thing sits very high and the interior is set-up for winter-time camping/cooking/traveling - very nice. The owner sleeps in the parking lot most weekends. If only I had a spare $100,000+!

it is all enticing until..... Reality means umm... it's been forever that I spent more on a vehicle than my bicycles.

I might rather drop that $100K towards a condo in "the Box" Idaho, Mediocre skiing but..... Lots of snow for fat bikes, and then all summer it is a Pretty good base point for MANY Bicycle trips.

Jimmy Buffett is an alien, like Elvis.

I thought everybody knew that.
