Keys, wallet, cell
Where do you like to store this stuff while riding? I have tried back pack and small top tube bag. What are some other good options ? |
This stuff was partly what got me into wearing cycling jerseys for recreational rides :) Wallet and cell in ziploc bag, everything in back pockets, good to go!
If I'm not wearing bike-specific clothes, I like the little triangle bag that wedges between the top tube and seat tube. The small string backpacks are also good, with a bit less bulk than a regular backpack. A large saddle bag will also do the trick. If it's cold, jacket pockets. |
What do you wear? What kind of bike? I keep my keys in a front pocket on my cycling jacket (if I wear it) or in a back pocket of my jersey. I keep the phone either on a Quad Lock Mount, or in a Sticky Pod case along with my credit cards etc. |
I do road and mtb |
Made a copy of driver license, med card, key that’s always in bag on bike +$10 & Tums Ph in Velcro’d Jersey pocket |
I wear normal clothes with pockets...Cargo shorts have a lot of pockets and are great for storing personal belongings... Most jackets and athletic clothing has enough pockets to store this type of stuff.

I always wear a cycling jersey. Right pocket is for wallet and cell phone. (I stick to simple (and cheap) flip phones, I buy those folding cloth wallets with velcro from REI, sew on a wider velcro tab and fold the wallet around my cell. Cell cannot fall out and will almost certainly survive any crash, Could be important since I generally ride alone.
Left pocket contains - Leatherman w/ keys on a ring, tucked into a simple small leather bag I made (so the Leatherman won't destroy the jersey pocket). comb and lip sunscreen. I want my wallet and keys on me so if I get separated from my bike, I've got them. (Bikes haven't always stayed with me after crashes. If I am not conscious, I will have little say in the matter.) Comb is only used after I get off the bike and take off my helmet, so anywhere else makes little sense. Chapstick I use frequently while riding. Jersey pocket is an easy place to reach. Ben |
unspecified bike
I have panniers on the front of my daily ride bikes ..
and a handlebar bag on my seldom used C&V road bike.. |

Second on the cargo shorts. It's not the number of pockets, it's that the pockets are buttoned. Wallet and keys tend to work out of my pockets when pedaling.
|
I'm able to get that stuff (except keys. why keys?) and essential tools into a small saddle bag for weekend rides, and into a larger saddle bag along with padlock and other stuff for daily commute. I found a small, really cool "camera backpack" (Tamrac Expedition 3) for when I need to carry more than what fits in the saddle bag.
If I can't fit everything in those two spots I jettison things until I can. |
Mail them to me, I will hold them for you.
...but seriously. I commute. I carry my phone in a side holster I wear on my belt. I ride in shorts with a belt loop. My keys are on a springy cord I clip to the belt loop of my shorts and carry them in my front pocket. My wallet is in my backpack, or saddle bag depending on if I am commuting or weekend riding for fun. |
I usually just keep a phone in my back pocket. Don't carry keys or a wallet. A phone works for payment pretty well everywhere (unless we venture down to WA where cash is still required.

iphone, drivers license, credit card & $10 in ziploc bag in jersey pocket. Mini pump and garage door remote in other pocket. Third pocket available for extras as needed - banana, bandana, whatever. Spare tube, tire levers, inflator head and a couple of CO2 cartridges in a small saddle bag |
There isn't any need for me to take my wallet, it stays in my vehicle. The phone goes with me attached to my stem, recording the ride. The keys fit in a under seat bag.

Cycling jersey. Keys, wallet, tat sleeves in left. phone goes in middle pocket. Food goes in the right.
|
Handlebar bag. :)
|
Mountain biking I carry them on my Jones hbars in this: https://www.jonesbikes.com/jones-h-bar-pack/ Road riding I carry them in a saddlebag. Commuting, I just carry them in my pants or jacket pocket since I’m wearing work clothes. When I have it in my pocket the iphone tracks my “steps”. I like the handlebar bag the best because it’s always right there in front of me. john |
"Fanny Pack" , great for carrying lots of things!

Saddle bag.

Thanks for the great ideas! So much info available here on bike forums. |
I use a saddle bag. Just a cell though. No need for keys and wallet unless I'm riding to work. In that case I have pockets.

A small handlebar bag
I don't wear bike jerseys, and I cringe when I see a rider with jersey pockets full of crapola, looks like a spare tire around the waist. Bought this little feller from Ellum Bag Works in Texas just for those items:
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9e85db28b1.jpg I have a small, old Cannondale under-saddlebag that holds the spare tube, multitool and shower cap for the saddle. It was too small and inconvenient to carry the phone. I like this little Ellum bag, quick access to the phone. |
been enjoying my new mountain feedbag. cell phone rides there if it's not raining. everything else in my rear trunk on my rear rack. if it's raining the cell phone goes in a lens case in the rear trunk

Seat bag or handlebar bag.
I know these things are out of vogue with cycling fashionistas, but I'm a Fred and don't really care. |
