Evans Cycles sold off ....

In the UK Evans Cycles is a respected vendor of cycles and well known but they have hit the hard times with internet sales so they have gone into administration.

BUT here is the interesting fact : The business was bought for GBP 8M. However it is reported that the stock was worth GBP 28M !! Now that is a bargain.

I wonder if we will see some bargains being sold off as the new owner tries to get back his GBP 8M!? Check their website here https://www.evanscycles.com/offers/managers-specials_c

But the purchase of the Evans Cycles chain - where Mr Ashley admits he will shut half of the 62 shops - does fit with his plans for dominance in the field of sports.
There is good with the bad. Yes, Evans will exist but half the stores are going to be gone. It sounds as if overall locations were over saturated. Thanks for posting the links.

They said in the story that 3 years ago Evans Cycles was sold to a Private Equity firm for GBP 75M

It is a shame to see them go under, they have been a bit crap for the last 12 months or so, but prior to that, I did heaps of my online purchases from them, as they had some great prices on lights in particular.

things change

When in London in the late 80's & early 90' they were still making their own
steel frames in house..

UK regional frame building for sales in their own shops is over.

now they are just a chain of retail stores with some internet sales..

Grated it has limited appeal and the layout / displays in SD shops is abysmal BUT ... if you want to buy Nike trainers (or pick which ever other well known brand name you wish to apply) who sells them the cheapest and love or hate it but it's probably Sports Direct.

If they keep dealing with them you may now be able to buy major brand names from SD/Evans for less than you can elsewhere and you'll be left with a choice of pay the extra and get better service elsewhere or buy the cheapest on offer and get carp after sales service which unfortunately is where the market seems to have gone and I don't seem how it can come back from that.

Don't get me wrong by any stretch I hate where the market's gone and would love to turn back time but consumers as a whole have an awful lot to answer for where it's gone because we've seen it and bought it cheaper elsewhere .... reap what you sow but most haven't the foresight to see what they were sowing and it'll drag everything else with it as they try to compete on price as well and you can't offer quality at bucket shop prices.
