Close out bikes can be a good deal if and only if hey are the right size.

Bike fit affects your comfort, efficiency and performance every single minute you are riding it. Nothing else even comes close in importance. Smoother operating gear shifting, for example, only benefits you while you are shifting.
When you are looking at close out bikes there's usually only the one so it's size is what it is. Your sales person, on the other hand is motivated to sell the bike they have so they may be less than forthcoming about it being the appropriate size to fit you.

$1,500 to $2,000 is too much to spend not to get it right. Pick the one that fits you better. If neither feels like the perfect fit - keep looking.

By 'upgrade', do you mean buy a different/better bike, or upgrade the components on the same bike?

Either way, what @Retrogrouch said about fit and comfort. It trumps everything else.

The Pinarello has disc brakes. If you're thinking of upgrading to a set of carbon wheels that might be a consideration.

I'm coming up on a 100,000 miles on disk brakes and still don't have any pressing reasons to use them or to avoid them.
Are both bikes from the same shop? If not, pick the shop you like better.
If so, see if the shop guys have any recommendation.
Which one is the prettier color?

bmc slr03 2017 105 ($1500) vs pinarello gan 105 2017 disc ($2000)
those on the shop floor for test rides?

nobody here has that kind of money to pour into carbon frame race bikes..
