Friends ebike or not
I notice that ever since I got an ebike my standard bike friends have excluded me in discussions and general friendships. Be aware of this exclusionary attitude of ignoring if you change the type of bike.
I am the oldest at 72 and the leader is about 66, others are 64 and 70. I have known the leader the longest. Friends are temporary as my leader friend is following that unwritten rule.

Probably were not real friends if they ditch you because of a bike choice.

Too many even numbers. You need to add a 5th friend with an odd age.

You've probably unknowingly developed an elitist attitude that they picked up on. Maybe it's not them.

Stay with both bikes and ride them accordingly.
Your group is definitely the senior riders++. As they're close in age, then also capabilities.
Slower reaction times, slower average speed, less off the saddle climbing, etc. Take all that and put that rider in a fast electric bike with a throttle that ignores age?
Its like the elderly car driver who collides into a fast food restaurant.

Nobody likes an annoying show-off. Nobody likes to constantly get dropped by an annoying show-off. Nobody likes a bragging, "look at how much money I spent" blowhard, show-off. As long as that's not a description of you... it's them.
Enjoy your eBike!

From the other thread you started on this, I got the impression you are showing up for a group ride on an eBike?
If so, would likely ignore you as well, as the alternative would be to tell you what I teally thought.

I actually would welcome an ebike so i can have a challenge and be even more proud of leaving that person in the dust.
with my fatbike I sometimes pass by road bikes (mostly older people, though) and that gives me extreme satisfaction because it is hard to pass. It would give me less satisfaction to pass other fatbikes.
Sometimes some old grandma passes me uphill on a comfort ebike (i hear the motor and obviously an old granny on a 20" upright bike would not beat me otherwise). nothing wrong with that.

I'm a road cyclist. My MTB friends do not include me on their MTB rides, but when they ride road bikes I'm included.
You've changed sports. Biking is not just biking. There's always a type of biking described in close proximity to the more general concept.

In general, I couldn't care less what someone else is riding. And e-bikes definitely have an excellent place in this world.
But I would find it annoying on a group ride to be working my butt off while someone else isn't even breaking a sweat, not because he's so fit, but because he's riding a motorbike.
Also, inquiring minds wonder if OP isn't just a troll, since he hasn't checked back in....

why would it matter unless it is a UCI sanctioned event or some other form of race where specific bike types are prescribed?

If I want the challenge of catching up with something or someone that I have no chance of catching unless they let me, I'll chase cars.

Wow. While I don't participate in group rides for a few personal reasons, I'm sorta stunned by the undertones of resentment and competitiveness by those who do. How is an eBike a bad thing? And how could an eBike be a bad thing in a group ride? It's not a competition. Are the egos so fragile? C'mon, all the same group riding rules apply, do they not? I can't imagine being irritated at someone in a group ride because they're not sweating as much as me.

Oh my lord, most ebikes are nothing like a motorcycle. They still require you to pedal, offering assist. You can still ride them at 12-15mph, so his or her friends won't have any issues keeping up. Unreal. You cannot simply sit on the bike and go.

I am almost old enough to fit in with his group myself. I personally wouldn't care about an e-bike.

I have nothing against eBikes. In fact, I am getting one in the near future. But there is no way in hell I would join a group road ride with it.
