After being stabbed in the head, a South African cyclist wasn’t going to wait around for an ambulance—and perhaps another assault. Instead, he rode his bike to a nearby doctor’s office, the knife still protruding from his skull. |

Wow! What a story to tell the grandchildren. He's so hard headed that he bent the blade.
The other patients in the Dr's office were nice enough to let him cut the line! - They were probably as stunned as I was when I saw the pic. |
guess cyclists should avoid Gordon’s Bay Drive Capetown South Africa, huh? or at least bring a bag of money to give muggers. what's that Dillon song? "gotta serve somebody"

That story doesn't surprise me at all, not even that the attack took place in daytime either. South Africa's got a crazy-high crime rate that just keep getting worse, and anyone who is wealthy (or is suspected of being wealthy) is a target. There's also a real possibility of a civil war breaking out in the near future. When apartheid ended and Mandela became President the crime rate started slowly climbing, but its really taken off since Mandela died. A white college chum (early 1980s) was able to get out and immigrate to the Netherlands about 15 years ago due to family ties in Europe, and he's glad he did.

See, who says you need an electric motor to motivate yourself to ride?

If you weren't worried about wearing a helmet to protect you from a crash, well.. this might change your mind; hopefully not permanently, either.

"A knife to the head? Is that all you got? Come get some!"
