Alfine shifters on drop bars

First of all, I believe with the new 11 speed Alfine, the hub was mechanically improved over the older 500 series 8 speed Alfine. The 700/7000 series should have higher reliability.

Okay, so shifters. It looks like Microshift makes a bar-end shifter, though only for the 8 speed. Is this compatible with the newer improved 8 speed Alfine or only the older one? It looks interesting because it is much lighter and cheaper than the brifters, and because you don't really need brifters as much for an IGH as you would for cassette.

Microshift also makes Brifters though for the 11 speed only it looks like. How is that one? Anyone used it?

No I have not..
a few years ago there was one , a brifter for the Alfine 11 speed, but that offering is gone.
seen on a British cyclist, touring the coast on one a several years ago..

Now there is an indexed CNC machined bar end ... from UK company SJS Cycles,
for the Alfine 11 speed ,
(and there is also the option of a Di2 shifting kit added to the Alfine..)

No I have not bought, and tested, one of those either..

Microshift makes this option.
https://www.microshift.com/en/product/sb-n080/
The photo shows an 11 speed shifter, but the part number refers to 8 speed.
Have not tested these, but microshift products have high customer satisfaction, so i would bet on it.
