A guide to setting up the ironmind bike...

It has always been by the ultimate dream for me to join the Ironmind. Because of this, I'm starting to check out videos on how to prepare for it.

I didn't know that choosing the perfect bike is part of the process. Here is Brian Rose's journey:

Maybe it's just me, or a trick of camera perspective, but I thought that guy looked awfully cramped on that bike, like his knees were too close to his chest. Then again, that whole production screamed 'reality TV' at me. Their website is a sales outlet.

Anyone else feel the same?

I certainly do. With almost 50 years of cycling experience along with almost 20 years of bike racing experience I would not be able to stomach that "coach" who was encouraging the guy on the bike. He was obviously a novice. Trying to get him to push that hard the first time he had worn cycling shoes was stupid. Maybe the video cut it out, but there was no indication that he actually warmed up. As presented, this video shows a dangerous workout

"If you never push yourself like this...." ????

I've done intervals on trainers and yes it can be tough. But go freaking do a timed event with 12,000 ft of climbing out in the elements then talk about pushing yourself. Riding a trainer, nah, it ain't the same.

Huh.

I’ve worked with cycling coaches and exercise physiologists. Never experienced anything remotely like that.

Just from reading the posts, I had to watch the video. What was that, like 55 or 60rpm? Going in without context, I was getting a real culty, Scientology vibe. Weird.

I know that HR is very individual, but that dude looked like he was gonna croak by the time he hit 140bpm. By 162, he looked and sounded like he was in desperate need of assistance. I don't consider myself particularly fit or strong, but my LTHR is 166. One afternoon I mistakenly rode on military-grade nasal decongestant and averaged 160bpm for 4 hours.
