How can I encourage husband to bike more?

I just got him a Trek 300. He like it and bikes a casual 10 miles a couple times a week -maybe. I would like to see him into a rolling team with a faster bike. Any ideas on how to motivate him to take it more seriously. Biking is one the sports that he is remotely interested in -he won't even look at a soccer game!

Buy a tandem, pack a blanket, bottle of wine, wheel of cheese... the rest is too hot for Bike Forums.

Give him a little more time on the bike, since you just got it. Trsnrtr had the right idea kinda. Instead of a tandem, plan a ride date. I think the tandem idea would work for someone more into cycling. Sure it could build teamwork in the relationship, but it could also backfire. It would then be a ride fight.

Okay. I already told him that I would dress up like a cowgirl -complete with a holster, a fake gun and a hat. How do you think I got him to do the 10 miles? AND the cable has been gone for awhile now. We really NEED the 'net though...

Wine, cheese and a blanket 'ummmm. You might be on to something. There must be more to this. I mean there has got to be another way. Have you EVER been bitten by a bug?

Living down here in the Houston area bugs are par for the course. Misquitoes, fire ants, etc. etc. If bugs are an issue (allergies or phobia), then ride to a local cafe or restaurant for a meal. Then ride to a pub or bar for a drink.

Biting lip on cowgirl outfit.... he is a lucky guy. Hope my wife doesn't read the forum.

Bah. Send him down to Dayton to hang out with my wife and you and I can go riding together.

Seriously, I guess maybe ride to a favorite destination of his? Good restruant for lunch? I dunno.. I've tried everything with my wife.

take it from me: Unless he wants to ride that much, or he realy enjoys it, you cant make him ride more.

good luck

Men like competition -- so if he doesn't go riding with you, let him see you with the competition. There should be a few boys with the local club who would be willing to help.

Seriously, I would buy you and him about 6 months of spin classes at the YMCA or other sports club to build up cardio with classes about 3 times a week. Get religious about it and then when he starts feeling better about his strength level he will want to ride more outside. Spin class lets you hide your ego until you can keep up in the real world. I finally got tired of trying to catch up with my Cat 3 wife and started using bio-logical warfare. Got her pregnant.

Chigrl71, well that signals a change in their relationship that are addressed fully (and with pics) on other web forums!!?

Making biking fun is certainly a good place to start the plan. I would think riding to fun or useful destinations would also be a good idea. Be prepared for it to take some time to build up interest. How much you want to spice up riding with promises of other intimate games is up to you and your judgement of your relationship.

"I would like to see him into a rolling team with a faster bike"

The first word in this sentence it the real problem here ,mate.

YOU want him to do this which will never fly. You've got to let
it be HIS idea to get it to work. No guy worth his salt want's to
be seen as pu$$y whipped.

It's a guy thing...........

OK, he's riding some, right? So tell him you're starting to notice more muscle tone in his legs, or that he seems to have more energy since he started riding. You know, positive reinforcement. Or find some pics of cyclists in a magazine and sit around drooling over them.

I think you should tell your husband in you best whining way that you were passed by a guy while riding. He had a very nice tight butt and great thighs. In fact you had trouble concentrating as he simply stated, "If you can catch me, you can have me." You're whining because you couldn't catch him. But if you keep riding...well let him figure it out.
