A must go to bike shop in New York.
Hi, I am making a trip to new york, and would like to go to some bike shops. Is there any that are a must see? Looking for one with a lot of character...

In my jaundiced opinion, you're 30 years too late. The OLD Stuyvesant bike shop on 11th St. was pretty good.

Unfortunately, I prefer a large selection of bikes and I end up buying from Brands Bicycle in Long Island. I have purchased from New York City in the past but bike shops tend to have a limited section since most are small.

Welcome to New York. I'm surprised no one has replied. Here are my choices based on my history of visiting bike shops in the city.
1) Conrad's Bike shop - 25 Tudor City Pl, New York, NY 10017 - 212-697-6966 - Definitely higher end, but has history.
2) Toga Bike Shop - 110 West End Ave, New York, NY 10023 - This place has been around forever and has all sorts of bikes.
3) Bicycle Renaissance - 430 Columbus Avenue New York, New York - Also a staple in the city.
This is just a few, there are many more, but these have beaten the test of time.
Enjoy your trip.

R&A Cycles in Brooklyn. There are hundreds of high end frames hanging from the ceiling.
