Why so many Trek Bikes out there?
Everywhere I ride. Every time I’m somewhere others are riding I see lots of Trek bicycles.
Appears to be more Trek bikes out on the roads and trails than other brands. Is this true? And why do people like Trek so much? I have never owned a Trek myself.
Too much Trek out there. Why? What do they know that I don’t?

Marketing and a lot of Trek shops out there. Plus they make good bicycles.
I see a lot of the big 3 (Trek, Specialized and Giant).

Trek makes very few bikes of their own. Most of them are made by contracted vendors such as Giant Bicycles, CBC, etc. They are really, really good at marketing. That is why you see so many of them out there.

They've been around for a long time, typically build a quality product, and offer bicycles in a wide range of prices. It's only logical that you'd see lots of them on the road.

They're kind of the Ford of the bike world. It's a well established brand, it's an American company (even if many (or most?) of their products are made overseas), and they offer pretty much every kind of bike at a huge range of price points.

What You See, depends on where you look ..
It has been the brand LBS, here has represented since 1988 .. now the shop has a rotating credit account with the company,
so as to stock bikes and sell them paying for them, before the company charges for them at the end of the season..
Shop has a couple other lines too.. & a QBP account..
Another shop in another town sold Specialized, he Retired , medical necessity, and so, now no one sells SBI in the county .
....

They are common because at least around here, the shops are common and it's the one 'real' bike brand a lot of common people know, so they go straight to Trek.

I put Trek stickers on my custom bike to prevent it from getting stolen.

Trek is a relative new comer. Started in 1975 in Wisconsin. Compared to Schwinn which started in 1895. But, L. Armstrong rode Trek to dominate cycling. It's a case of everything coming together just right. Sometimes, it's just a matter of luck and timing and doing it right.
Schwinn today has next to nothing to do with Schwinn founded in 1895. It's just a brand name Pacific has slapped ona line of bikes. No continuity in design and manufacture.

And, I will note that Trek was an established brand well before Lance came along. I had a Trek 660 back in the mid-80s and bought a Trek 9300 (or whatever it was) in the early 90s. The storied Trek 720 touring bike was around since at least as far back as the early 80s. The 520, still produced today, was introduced in, I believe '83.

Same reason there are so many Chevys: there is a dealer in nearly every town that has a bike shop, they are well marketed, have name recognition, and they have models which serve all price points and nearly all styles of riding.

I am impressed with John Burke's (owner of Trek) advocacy and support of bicycling. His advocacy definitely helps the Trek brand but he works hard at making bicycling better. It is one of the most important reasons I support Trek.
