Dumbfounded by serial number

Greetings~

I have tried numerous internet type searches to ascertain the maker, year, etc. of this frame. I've had no luck. Any ideas???

Could be an number of Asian bike frames. 80's most likely. Thinking it may have been a Fuji Sagres level bike.

Send it to these guys .. https://bikeindex.org/ at least they can say if it was reported stolen..
Or registering it you have a better chance on you getting it back when some one nicks yours.

of course after the repaint you lost brand name.. so give up worrying about it....

put a kickstand on it

The lugs look like my old Gitane bike from the 1970's. As I recall it had a round cut-out under the top of the seat tube like yours does.

I know of at least one frame builder whose serial numbers started with the year of manufacture so it could be yours was built in 1968. That might help you narrow down the parameters a bit.

I think you mean "confounded", not "dumbfounded".
