Buying Used Jerseys Off Ebay

So I was wondering what folks do. I see a lot of nice used jerseys on Ebay, sometimes with tags on them even. Normally I wouldn't be big on buying used clothes, but nice cycling clothes are expensive. I was wondering if anyone actually purchases used stuff on Ebay.

Any suggestions from folks who have done it?

I would be concerned about sizing. But if it were a brand and style i have tried on before, sure I'll buy it.

So far only one successful eBay used purchase. A New Belgium Brewing jersey that I won for $15. It was practically new and has since become one of my go-to jerseys.
If it seems well represented in the pictures I have no issue going taking the chance. Just give it a wash first.

I have been tempted with a few pairs of shorts but am yet to pull the trigger .

I've bought jerseys off Ebay with good success. I got one of my favorite jerseys that fit perfect, laid it flat and measured armpit to armpit, front collar to front hem and rear collar to rear hem. When I see a jersey I want if the measurements aren't listed I contact the seller and ask for them.

Years ago I would sell my team stuff on eBay at the end of a season. Including shorts.

I got some ok prices, others felt like I was giving it away. I had good feedback. Kinda wish I'd kept my team kit though.

Yep, i've bought a couple jackets used. I would buy a second hand Jersey if I found one I liked. I wouldn't buy used shorts or bibs, but I would buy new ones with tags.

I'm not sure there's a large market for stolen used bicycle jerseys.

Thrift stores are good for finding used jerseys, usually priced at 5 bucks or less.

While I've never bought a used Jersey I wouldn't be afraid to either. I would however NOT buy a used short! LOL!!

In reality paying a lot of money for a jersey is a waste of money since their nothing more than 100% polyester which even a new $15 dollar jersey is made with 100% polyester. Some jersey's claim their treated against odor but I've never found that claim to work! Wool does work however in the stink factor, but only for a bit longer than polyester. Socks are the same as Jerseys, no need for expensive socks, I liked Nashbar socks but they're no longer in business so I have find another source of cheap socks, but I bought a supply of the Nashbar socks before they went out business. So I just buy $50 or so jerseys I find on sale for about $15 at the end of the season clearance sales. Shorts on the other hand are more important, cheap shorts will cause discomfort, so I don't go cheap on those but I do buy them when there are closeouts because I don't believe in paying full price when I know eventually they'll go on sale.

Shorts are the one thing you don't wanna skimp on if you're gonna be in the saddle all day. But for rides less than two hours or so, I have found regular street shorts with regular boxer briefs work fine, provided the boxer briefs are not too loose.

As for socks, I found a great way to save money on those. I just get the Walmart ankle socks ... BUT ... I get the big ones in size 15. That way they come up 4-6 inches or so above my ankles. The regular sized ones always shrink up too small, but the size 15's are perfect. Very cheap too, and come in both black and white.

My first couple jerseys came from the Salvation Army, same concept, I just got to try them on.

If I'm patient I can find new stuff cheap enough though, at this point I don;t really bother unless it is something vintagey or unique that you'll never find again.

One thing to look out for at thrift stores, where you can save a lot of money is cycling shoes. Don't forget to look for those in the shoe dept. They're usually SPD shoes, from my experience, and often in near-new condition. Plus you get to try them on first, unlike mail order.

I agree with JBELL64, above. All of my Jerseys are Primal. I take a Primal "Men's Large." What I have found is: If it doesn't say "Men's" Large in the Jersey, it's too small for me. Must be a woman's large or a teenager's Large.

I have a teammate who has done this. I'm the opposite, I hang on to team stuff and wear it for training/commuting until it wears out. (Then I wear it on Zwift where no one can tell if your shorts are paper thin.)

Genital wart removal technology has advanced in leaps and bounds, and a bad case of ringworm is hardly a death sentence these days.
