Installing disc brake
 

Hello all. A few months ago I bought a 26 inch Schwinn Meridian Trike and then decided to buy a conversion kit to make it an e-trike. Everything seems to be working fine except for the v brakes on this new front wheel. I am tired of the hassle and want to know if it is possible to install a disc brake next to the electric motor. I am elderly and would need some specific instructions on how to do this without having to tool anything on the bike. Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Problem, is lack of images .. Motor in the hub or the frame?

and you are are 8 posts short of being able to insert pictures, Here, even if you know how..

Delta Upright trikes with 1 wheel in the front can have 2 brakes, to have a disc brake the fork must have the fittings on it to mount it

A wheel with a drum brake hub can retrofit a bike on a fork without the fittings.... bit not if that's where your motor.. is

Have a much better Brake put on the V brake posts .. I likr the German Magura Hydraulic HS 33, 22 or 11..

hire a bike shop to sort it out for you... it will not be cheap.

mid drive motor drives just 1 back wheel then front fork can take another brake..

Unfortunately, if the pic above is representative of your bike, any solution is going to require tooling on the frame.

You'll need a new fork at minimum. Local bike shop should be able to help you out.

It sounds like you've installed a front hub-motor, right? Front disc brake will mean a new fork. The v-brake that came on that trike is probably not a top-shelf component, and I'm pretty certain it wasn't designed to handle the extra torque from a hub-motor. A new front v-brake sounds easiest. Have a bike shop look at it.

If you've got a motor in your front hub, the hub would need to be disc-compatible. Then you'd have to replace the fork with a disc-compatible fork. Then you'd have to buy a disc caliper and rotor. The new cabling would be a minor issue compared to the other stuff. Or you could replace the current V-Brake caliper and pads (for a lot less money.)

The Raleigh Tristar IE is exactly what you are looking for no fuss no faff and already an e-bike. Whatever kit motor you get is unlikely to be as good as even the TranzX motor they use which is going to be a lot more reliable then a Schwinn conversion. Plus you get warranty and the folks at Raleigh are really easy to deal with warranty wise but luckily buying the Tristar you won't have to because the shop will do that work for you.
