Would This Bother You? Misaligned Headtube Badge

Clearly not straight.

Would you make it right, or leave it?

OK, two separate Q's: "fix or leave?" (the poll), and "would this bother you?" (the thread). Answer either, or both, knock yourselves out.

indyfabz 02-21-19 03:08 PM

Edoardo would not approve, but it looks like you need to make it left. :D

HA! You're right [edit: I've done it again, should say, "CORRECT"], nice catch!

Yeah, the fact I posted a new thread means I need to fix this. It's not even my bike. But if I'm gonna put it back on the road...

wedgeSG 02-21-19 03:49 PM

I couldn’t even leave it on there long enough to take the photo.

CliffordK 02-21-19 04:01 PM

I'm not sure I've seen a Bianchi badge like that.

Hard to say. If I thought it would come off cleanly, I'd probably fix it. If not, I'd leave it alone.

Those missing brakes and shifter cables would be a much greater concern for me. And, once you get it all covered up, it will be mostly out of sight.

Try some Handlebar bags?

Milton Keynes 02-21-19 04:25 PM

It would kind of bother me, but fixing it depends on whether or not I would think that I could cleanly remove it without destroying the badge or marring the paint. Then I don't know what I'd stick it back on with.

But... it does make your bike unique.

ridelikeaturtle 02-21-19 04:31 PM

I'm thinking a bit of heat and dental floss, and that badge will slide off no worries.

I guess we'll see tomorrow! Where's the missus' hairdryer?

sdmc530 02-21-19 04:38 PM

that would drive me crazy! If it could be fixed I would defiantly fix it. If I was unsure if it was fixable I would still try to fix it. Get it warm and see if it wont come off. I really hate that picture. I have OCD issues but man this will keep me up tonight.

Doctor Morbius 02-21-19 04:48 PM

If it were my bike and I could do it without screwing something up, yes. As the bike is someone else's, no.

Besides, we don't need no stinkin' badges!

I think that might be a typo (supposed to be "definately"?); but even if so, I like your version better.

I will /defiantly/ fix this.

Or **** it up completely. (Very little chance of that, really.)

Actually, it's definitely.

You could always put it on upside down. :thumb:

Doge 02-21-19 05:25 PM

Yes. Because every little thing bothers me.
Which is why my latest car (bought used) is filled with hail dents.
So nothing bothers me about that.

I would buy it as a factory second if that was identified. Otherwise, it is not OK.

Wileyrat 02-21-19 05:31 PM

My daughter told me once the only thing I care about is my bikes, and I would care a lot about that.

I'm assuming it's stuck on like the stupid dealer tags on new cars these days, which means a heat gun should be able to loosen that up enough to remove.

Good luck.

wschruba 02-21-19 05:37 PM

Put on some gloves, and grab some dental floss. Saw it off the frame, then reattach it with 3M trim tape. You get one shot to put it on right, or you'll be repeating it, FYI.

Nachoman 02-21-19 08:11 PM

I have enough things in life that annoy me. I don't need my bike added to the list. Fix it!

ArmChairRider 02-21-19 08:43 PM

If the owner is a psychiatrist then I wouldn't mention it, lest they point out the problem is yours.

rollagain 02-21-19 08:54 PM

That would annoy me intensely, but I'd leave it there so I wouldn't feel as bad when theft or some other misfortune befell the bike.

Come to think of it, you'd be able to identify a stolen bike by something like that.

Eddy had a few too many bottles of wine that night.

Doug64 02-21-19 09:19 PM

I would make sure that it really is a Bianchi. It could be a sloppily applied head tube badge in hopes of passing the bike off as a Bianchi.

I believe you can get a Bianchi head tube badge for $7.00 here.

Kedosto 02-21-19 09:42 PM

Gotta fix it.

Others have already mentioned, but more specifically, use dental TAPE and not floss. The tape is much thinner and smoother. Double sided adhesive tape will work to reattach, but it’s too thick for my taste and leaves a noticeable gap between the badge and the headtube. I prefer 3M adhesive spray because it lays super thin. Trouble is you gotta buy the whole can to use one little spritz of glue. Hit it once LIGHTLY and let it set for a minute to get tacky before applying the badge to the headtube. You get ONE TRY to get it right. Before doing anything to reattach it, check and adjust the badge - the radius of the curve is probably off from being stuck on incorrectly.

I might leave it as probably one of the very few mis-badged Bianchis on the planet. You could make it right (left?) but that wold just leave you with yet another properly badged Bianchi, just like thousands of others.

If nothing else is wrong with the bike, that would me bother me enough to make it straight.

avole 02-21-19 11:34 PM

Mine is also slightly to the left, at least the badge commemorating Bianchi’s anniversary on the downtube is. It is also coming unstuck. I consider it an asset, not a flaw, which adds many thousands to the price of the bike :)

frogman 02-22-19 12:39 AM

My old Trek badge is attached with two teensy screws.
