Mama says she is ready for spring!

When my ever so wonderful wife rants that she is ready for spring, then I know spring is coming. She loves winter, but has had enough this year. Claimed spring was near this morning because the sunrise was incredibly beautiful and the birds were happily singing.

Doctor Morbius 02-28-19 07:29 PM

I pray she's right! :thumb: Sick of Winter here too. Need to get outside and RIDE!!

GrainBrain 02-28-19 08:30 PM

Yes ready for spring as well! But ugh looking at the extended forecast it doesn't get above freezing for the next two weeks. A couple years ago it was much warmer!

You mean she stepped outside and didn't see her shadow. Yippee.!!!..... So sick of the cold about right now. I've got 70 miles on the bike since the new year. I'll get 10 miles in tomorrow. 36 degrees and very light wind. Ride....

The snow was pretty much all gone yesterday, and two days ago I heard a thrush sing for the first time this year, but today the snow is back again.

indyfabz 03-01-19 04:51 AM

It's currently snowing in Philly. Rain tonight. More snow/ice/rain on Sunday then temps in the low 30s all next week. Phil the groundhog is a fake.

Lemond1985 03-01-19 07:20 AM

Never reached above 70 degrees for all of February in LA this year. Cruellest winter there in 132 years. :(

Can't complain here just at the moment. Weather is deteriorating now but we've had a couple of weeks of ludicrously warm weather in Southern England, reach a record high of 20°C (68°F) at Kew Gardens. Mind you, it's still been very cold in the mornings making it hard to decide what to wear for the ride to work. Dress to be warm in the morning or dress so as not to have to carry a ton of clothing in my backpack for the 18 miles, 600 ft climb going home? That 600 ft means it's also noticeably cooler up where we are, making that choice even harder. I opted for the latter, though.

Our weather forecast for St Louis is significant snow on Sunday followed by single digit temps on Monday. Gonna freeze my daffodil shoots again.

Milton Keynes 03-01-19 10:31 AM

I've been tired of winter since December... I'm not a cold weather person, so every winter I tend to get the blahs. It gets really bad around February and March, when I'm dying to get outside and ride but it's still too cold and nasty. I just keep dreaming of warm weather and being on my bike riding free...

TiHabanero 03-01-19 02:08 PM

Milton Keynes, I, too hate winter. At one point in time I loved it as XC skiing was my thing. No longer do that as work requires too much time. After 30 years of my wife telling me to take vitamin D, I started this winter. It has truly had an affect on my mood. Not so gloomy as in years past. Might help you out.

We have 6 inches of snow staying put here in Michigan. Cold as hell at night and stays cold during the day. Don't see an end to it, but my wife sees it ending soon. I'm going with her assessment!

Claimed spring was near this morning because the sunrise was incredibly beautiful and the birds were happily singing.

Just two days ago (2/27) I posted on the Winter Cycling Forum:

In particular though, I rode about 4 miles this morning (2/27) at 13 ͦ F without discomfort. On my ride, I noted these two seemingly February-specific phenomena that I might consider harbingers of Spring:

These rides, though in the Winter, might seem trivial, but I am riding a heavy hybrid bike after a long (months) layoff from my usual riding schedule.

BTW, @TiHabenero , noting that you post from Michigan, I myself am a native of Detroit, and I got my start in a cycling lifestyle out there.

We toured in Michigan and Ontario.

In 1977 we moved to Boston on our bikes, as a bicycling honeymoon from Los Angeles to Washington, DC and then took the train up to Boston

Yes, residing in West Michigan now. Been working on my spouse for 30 years to move south, but as long as her sisters are here, she is here. Still going to work on her. Eventually she will wear down, I hope.

Same up the coast in Santa Barbara, but not bad. Pic taken last weekend(2/23), 65ish degrees, no wind, warm in the sun, people strolling the beach in shorts. Someone has to live here, might as well be me.

It’s not Memorial Day yet. Denver still has about 3 months of winter left.

trailangel 03-03-19 07:52 AM

I always refer to my wife as "mama" too.

TiHabanero 03-03-19 08:03 AM

Mama is a term of endearment. Comes from having children and her name changes to Mom, Mama, and Mother. Love her to pieces!

Finally got tired of working out to GCN's videos, bought myself at least a month subscription to Zwift. KB

VegasTriker 03-04-19 05:34 PM

It is 69F and sunny outside. Rain predicted for tomorrow and Wednesday followed by some days a bit below the normal 67F. I don't feel so bad when I read that Madison, WI broke a 135 year old record for their low temperature overnight (-10F). It's a balmy 6 degrees there right now. I've seen the pleadings from a couple of southern WI riders who are ready for Spring to arrive. Maybe it will be a cool and pleasant summer there.
