Weight Loss
Any special strategies to address autoimmune visceral adiposity?
I was laid up for several months after a near-fatal crash a few years ago. The inactivity of rehab caused me to pick up about 25 lbs, but not in the form of subcutaneous fat that can be shed by traditional means. I am 64, and have been an avid rider all of my life. The most effective means I have found is to aggressively attack hills and plateaus during the hottest part of a summer day. This works well -- once I lost about 30 pounds this way -- but I cannot keep that up once the season changes. Besides, these rides can take up to three hours. (Walking offseason is out of the question -- don't ask!) Many thanks for any insights, especially from medical people. |
I'd go with talking to your doctor.
This isn't a common question that everyone is going to have an answer for. This is going to be something that is really specific to you and your injuries. Get advice from a doctor who knows your medical history. |
Lay off the beers when activity is low. Long rides are my best answer to times when weight loss plateaus and won't seem to go lower no matter how many short rides I make. I'm trying to work on my winter beer gut, but the weather is not cooperating right now.

I would guess that most anyone who reads that first sentence would need to use google to find even fake sounding like they know...and thats just apparently a regional/cultural term for obesity. |
Intra-abdominal fat can be decreased by calorie restriction, exercise, or, ideally, the combination. It might even be easier to lose than subcutaneous fat because it's more metabolically active. There is plenty of scholarly literature on this.
