Sweaty hands

I don't wear gloves unless it's cold, like 40s or below. Once it gets in the 80s, I have an issue of sweaty hands. Used to play a lot of tennis, always wore wrist/sweat bands to deal with that.

Any reason I shouldn't wear wrist bands instead of cycling gloves? They're less expensive, for one thing.

Am I not giving gloves their due for all their benefits?

I also prefer to ride barehanded. Get some bartape you like. I've found Fizik to be my favorite. Grippy even with sweaty hands.

Wrist bands are fine and they will make for some interesting tan lines. I opted for fingerless gloves with no padding.

I sweat like crazy above 70. That coupled with humidity makes for some wet palms while riding. Once I started using gloves, my life on a bike got better. No more slippery bar tape, and needless to say better grip. Plus if you were to crash can avoid the road rash on the palm.

gloves are good for wiping sweat from my brow etc. after a ride, they can be rinsed & wrung out to dry. helps to have more than one pair &/or style

I never plan to crash but when I do... I'm really grateful for palm coverage (gloves). It's a very awkward place for road rash... gloves are worth it :)

Do hands themselves sweat? If so, then your hands sweat. Seems obvious, huh. So why would wrist bands do much for your hands/palms? OTOH, at least one of the main reasons to wear gloves is for better grip from avoiding sweat-caused slipperiness. The other reasons are padding/comfort, and I guess some measure of protection if you take a spill.

I do use gloves, usually, but I have leather bar tape from Brooks, and it works well without gloves, for me of course. YMMV

I am a member of the excessive sweaty hand while biking club. For me, it is mainly from my hands themselves and not just a rundown so bands are out. With or without gloves varies slightly in amount but I end up wearing them to at least get better overall grip. This is after a ride last summer with fingerless gloves. Waterlogged wrinkled prunes. In the perfect world I'd wear full gloves for protection when offroad but that is just too much so I still use fingerless.
