Anyone know what the Scientific Method is?
I thought not.
I shouldn't go there or the thread will get sent to P&R yet the truth is that "certified" doctors know nothing about most mineral deficiencies either.
You can't do a blood test for Magnesium levels in normal circumstances because your body buffers your blood so a certified Dr is never going to diagnose or treat Magnesium deficiency.
Its difficult.
Do your own research.

Anyone know what quackery is? Magnesium levels are readily testable, it's just that the foolproof test is expensive. "Undetectable" disorders are at the heart of snake oil sales pitches.

Seriously, save the "don't go to the doctor" crap for a more appropriate pro-quack forum.

OK, so what is the Scientific Method?
You didn't answer the question yet a are still offering an opinion like you know what you are talking about.
You can't test Magnesium levels with a blood test. Its nothing to do with expense. You would have to have EXTRAORDINARILY low levels of Magnesium before it shows up in your blood.

Quackery is claiming that you can test blood levels of Magnesium.

I'm not giving precise answers/prescriptions here. Do your own research.
Magnesium deficiency is a Pandora's box of complexity, contradictions and dead ends.

Cell tests--involves a cheek swab. Probably accurate, but very expensive. A cheaper method is to take some magnesium and then do a urine test, and if you're excreting it right out, you're probably not deficient.

The blood test is problematic because it isn't stored in the blood.

Your Dunning-Kruger is showing.

Utterly wrong. Well Magnesium not being stored in your blood is correct. The more you need magnesium the less you absorb so a challenge test won't work.
Just stop offering advice.
I'm avoiding the pitfall of offering advice and just recommending that people do there own research.

The difference between you and me is that I know I'm incompetent to self-diagnose, and am telling the OP to go to a doctor--literally the only advice I offered. You're suggesting he should go to the internet and self-diagnose a magnesium deficiency, albeit in a passive-aggressive manner. Your "certified" doctors crack was the key.

Just stop telling people anything--"do your own research" is not the scientific method, it's utterly meaningless if you don't have the competence to understand what you're reading. Funny you didn't say anything about the cell test. Guess you didn't know about that.

I'm sure you'll do another round of "I'm not offering advice" when you clearly are, but I have better things to do than circular argument with you.

OP has diabetes, and needs to discuss anything that might involve nerves with his doctor. Literally the only advice I offered, except to say that when I have night muscle pain, a hot shower sometimes clears it up.

Do you know anything about cell tests via a swab and how they relate to Magnesium deficiency?
I'm not commenting on your speculation.

Go to your Doctor by all means yet if he just orders a blood test for magnesium deficiency then you will know that he knows nothing about magnesium deficiency himself.

Up date

Took it easy yesterday stretched, hydrated and a warm shower before bed. I actually slept all night.

I'm going to plan a rest day or two into my week, this mornings ride my legs felt good.

Sounds about right, then. I'm betting you're growing some muscle, and just really needed to build in some recovery time/relaxation. If stuff recurs, bring it up with your doctor.

I had to up my magnesium when I started riding. I had a memorable inner thigh cramp one night. Thought I was going to have to call 911. Impossible to stretch it out. Found out pickle juice does the trick for instant relief but it didn't stop til I added the Mag. There is a pre cramp tingle feeling I get before they hit.

I've had some of the issues you've mentioned. Usually a hot shower and a little massage including stretching does it for me. Bannas could be a good supplement too. As many have mentioned real pain can be a warning and seeing a doctor is not a bad idea.

Perhaps the OP is being polite. My crotch, which could be described as (the top of) "my thighs", bothered me at night until I started using hollow saddles, with a large hole in the centre, so that I no longer supported my weight by my perineum, etc., the soft tissue in the centre of my body. This only happened after I had got thin enough to lean forward more so that I was no longer supporting myself by my posterior. The strange sensations in my "thighs" encouraged me to get a more padded saddle, but I found made things worse. Later having moved to hollow saddles, with a hole, I don't need any padding (other than in my pants). This is my SMP Selle Evolution with its padding removed and a rear fracture repaired.

Hollow saddles, like long stems, and padded drops, would be fitted as standard in the timtakverse.

I've suffered with leg cramps at night for years. Never found a doctor who offered much more than the advice given here on maintaining hydration and possibly trying stretching exercises.

Good luck.

I don't think OP is describing cramping. He said it's not painful. All cramps are painful as far as I know. Am I wrong about this?

The only thing that seems to work for me with those is to either stand or pace until it goes away, which can take a couple minutes. My instinct is to curl up into a little ball, but that invariably makes it worse.

Even that didn't help. But I have learned to stumble to fridge and down some pickle juice and its then gone. I asked my Dr why or how it works and he said he doesn't know but its almost instantaneous. He thought maybe its the vinegar? If its bad I keep the pickles by the bed. LOL I like dill so not sure if sweet ones work. You know...I haven't had one for a long time,is it because now I drink apple cider? Hmmm...

I'm skeptical about pickle juice, but I haven't really tried it. If I have to choose between drinking pickle juice and cramps, I'm going with cramps. Bleccccch!

Its not bad. But then I like sour stuff. And as much as that inner thigh cramp hurt a bit of a sour taste wasn't bad at all.
It actually hurt after the cramp like it damaged the muscle. Think it was a week going away. But it just added to yet another painful spot. I try not to let it slow me down too much. LOL
When you have arthritis move it or lose it is a very real thing. I had to stop swimming laps for a couple of weeks twice in a couple months due to surgery on my face. During that time my shoulder arthritis decided to not let me put my arm up to take a stroke anymore. I stat PT for that on the 23rd of May. I am hoping that I can do laps or at least do A lap of the crawl again. I used to do water ballet and still try to but had to stop that too. I just am glad I discovered bike riding as at least I can keep in shape that way.

Hey, glad you found bike riding too!

Good luck with the PT, and if the pickle juice works for you, you can have mine.
