Good price on tires?

Been a Nashbar customer for years. I always though they had decent prices. Found a couple of tires I like in the $20 range for each. So I go to check out and their lowest price on shipping is $20. Frankly I would rather give the LBS an extra $20 on top of that instead of playing that game with Nashbar. It rust smacks of the ripoff of the airlines pricing.

Perhaps the price has something to do with the size of the package since they are wire bead. I don't know. But I like to look elsewhere. Can anyone recommend a good outlet besides Nashbar and Performance?

http://www.biketiresdirect.com/

I have had good luck with these guys on a couple occasions. Look for the sale items. Lots of tire reviews.

Longfellow stole it from me.... BikeTiresDirect. I bought a pair of Surly Kinards from them at $25/each. Great tires for my hybrid Schwinn. Love 'em.

I've bought two sets of tires from Bicycle Warehouse over the last few months.

Both of them with wire bead. One set got the pretzel twist treatment and shipped in a box. The other set were shipped in a plastic shipping bag, but left in normal circular shape. Both mounted well, with the pretzel twisted tires actually having the least shipping marks on them.

Anyway, Bicycle Warehouse currently has free shipping on orders over $50.00 and a code for 15% off. Throw in some new tubes and maybe rim strips and you'll be in free shipping range easy.

Another biketiresdirect customer. They had Schwalbe Duranos at $9.99. I bought 6 to get the free shipping. They give reward points also.

I liked biketiresdirect a lot when I lived near it. Still like them.

Just a heads up, you get FREE SHIPPING at Nashbar when spending $99 or more per order.

I purchase my touring tires from biketiresdirect. They are always 20% of MSRP and maybe 18% off what I would pay at my LBS. I always buy them in pairs. Total cost is greater than $50 so free shipping.

Last year i scored several highly discounted Comtinental road tires at Nashbar, while they were running a free shipping code. Make sure you're on their mailing list, so you don't miss the next one.
A year or so earlier, at Performance, I grabbed a bunch of their house brand (Forte) 26" road-friendly mtn tires, and I don't remember their shipping being insane, at all (I'm usually hyper-sensitive to rip-off shipping, as well.)

I shop around but a lot of the time Merlin or Wiggle ends up being the least expensive even coming from across the pond. Wiggle has free shipping over about $48 and Merlin's shipping is cheap even if you don't meet their free shipping min. I have a set of GP 4000s on the way right now from them.

The last 4 or 5 sets of tires I've bought came from Amazon.

I'm a loyal Merlin customer. They always have good deals.
And I like not having to scour the internet searching websites to save a few bucks.

I'm also a fan of Wiggle and Merlin, and have found shipping times to be reasonable. Wiggle's upgraded shipping is not particularly expensive and is quick (though may be an issue if you have issues with DHL.)

Jenson can also have random good deals from time to time. I bought tires from them several times before I switched my road bikes to GP4000S2.
