Rainman and Generic Rider go for a ride

Generic Rider, aka, Ken from Columbus, is in New Orleans for a visit and emailed me in advance to go for a ride. We got together this morning for about 25 miles, primarily along the lovely lakefront here in New Orleans. The weather was beautiful if typically humid. We stopped for coffee and had a great chat. Ken is a very interesting guy and an avid cyclist. I'm glad we got together. This time I made sure my batteries were charged and we got a picture taken.

ADDED:
Rainman is the old guy. Oh, OK, the old guy on the left.

Very cool. Hope the ride went well.

I actually had the pleasure of meeting Spire on a ride last week [no pix, sorry]. It was a lot of fun, and we invited him to join our posse.

I always find it odd how normal people look when we see their photos...

Raymond, that can't be you on the left. Your avatar has no beard.
Are you sure you aren't the one taking the picture.

Yes, Raymond, I'm a little slow responding! The waitress at the coffee shop did a good job making me look decent. For the rest of you, I'm Ken in the yellow shirt. I have to return the compliment to Raymond - an interesting guy that I look forward to riding (and talking) with in the future.

It was a great morning ride you and I had. Really enjoyed it. I took my time riding back to Metairie that day. Stopped in another coffee shop in Lakeview and rode through City Park. It was fun.

A couple of day later, my wife was doing something with her family and I took my bike accross the lake to Mandeville (which is my hometown). The town is actually getting to be quite attractive, with just about all the old homes restored and some new beautiful places along the lakefront. And I still admire the big stately Live Oaks with the Spannish moss hanging.

It was rainy off and on, but I just keep riding. I rode the Tammany Trace railtrail to Abita Springs and in the other direction, almost to Lacombe. Of course, I rode the lakefront and up and down the streets I played in as a kid. I probably did over 50 miles that afternoon. (not sure, at one point when it was raining, my computer/speedometer quite working - but it started working again when the rain stopped!). Incidently, I now have over 3000 miles on my bike since the day I bought it last November.

The last day we were in New Orleans, we drove the van down to the French Quarter (with the bikes in the back, as usual). We were going to walk around the quarter as we usually do. (for those of you that haven't been there, it is a unique place in America - highly recommended). After a while it got so hot and steamy, we went back to the van and pulled out the bikes. I didn't realize the the quarter is actually an exellent place to ride. Almost all streets are one wide lane, and the cars rarely go over biking speed for any length of time. And that little 10-15 mph breeze in the face just took out the hot/humid discomfort.

I asked you about digital cameras that day. Well, I bought a 3.2 MP Sony digital camera. This thing is really neat. I will send in some pictures soon.

Gotta go - We're getting ready to go ride the Little Miami trail in southwest Ohio now.

Ken
