Just, wow.

This forum seems to have a few know-it-all, snarky bullies on it that make it unpleasant to use. It's no surprise, forums of all topics have them. In response, I will no longer engage them and instead try to be nice, encouraging, and helpful to others.

I am most assuredly not a bully.

I am not a bully.

I am proudly snarky.

And people who act like they know it all are really annoying to those of us who actually do.

Excuse me I have to go yell at some kids to turn down their music and get off my lawn.

The ignore list is a wonderful thing.

Grammar could be your friend ... in a different world.

What you just said is that you will no longer engage the bullies and will also will no longer try to be nice, encouraging, and helpful to others.

I assume you meant to say that you plan to stop helping the bullies bully others and will now be surly and snarky to everyone?

Seeking clarification.

:D

See what happens when you get a bunch of grumpy old guys together to talk about bikes? :roflmao2:

You should see what happens when you get started on reverse mortgages and how things were better in the 60's

LOL, thanks! Corrected...

People that think they know everything really annoy those of us that do.

pdlamb 05-24-19 12:17 PM

Personally I go both ways.

I try to post helpful and thoughtful (or though-provoking) comments, except when I don't.

There's a number of topics that have been thoroughly hashed, and re-hashed, digested and even excreted several times. For those, snarky sarcasm comes out. It's an on-line forum, and I sometimes respond as if my brother in law's string had been pulled and the normal guff starts out, and I respond naturally.

Hopefully the reader can tell the difference.

That's why we can't have guns here.

I see you recently bumped into fietsbob in the mechanics sub forum.
The error was in thinking he is human. Bob's actually an AI program that parses data together to try and create human like interactions. Sometimes it works so so and sometimes it's a real trip.
Try to think of his writing as beat generation, psychedelic inspired haiku without the usual 5,7,5 constraint :)

Its amazing when you use the ignore list to ignore 2 or 3 people....

A thread with 300 responses that is getting out of hand will suddenly be reduced to 5 or 6 helpful responses to the original post.

Welcome back to the Department of Redundancy Department again. Can we assist you with some help?

Chain lube, self-defense, dogs, frame material, bike weight ... there is simply nothing sensible to be said on any of those topics which hasn't been ignored repeatedly in dozens of threads.

Can I apply a filter that only leaves genuinely helpful info?

What exactly does it do?
Does it makes threads started by that person invisible, or any response they give to someone else's thread?

Or does it just disable email notification for if that person responds?

Not trying to be snarky or bullying, BTW. 😂

Not invisible; you just see they posted something / made a post or response, but you have to go out of your way to view the content - so it's easily ignored. You can view what's been posted by users on your ignore list, with a simple click.

"What's the best chain lube?" is historically hot, as is "Fork's bent!"

Yes, of course, as long as you can create one!
