Cycling bib shorts - inseam
Been to multiple bike stores to try on men's summer cycling bib shorts. The inseam is always so long; results in a weird tan line when I wear casual shorts. Anyone know a manufacturer who has shorter inseams on bib shorts?
On a related note, why are inseams so long? Is it style or function?

Triathlon shorts generally have a shorter inseam.
Rapha makes short, regular and long sizes.

Check out The Black Bibs short inseam bibs. I have their regular bibs and they're fine for the money.
I have the opposite problem. I'd prefer a longer inseam, partly for the looks, partly for comfort -- the slight compression helps prevent my frequent muscle spasms. I even wear knee high compression socks some rides -- looks goofy, works great.
Most bibs and shorts look like 1960s style short-shorts. Hey, I admired Merckx as much as the next cyclist, but I'm not crazy about that swim trunks look. And I have skinny legs, so the usual 9" inseam shorts ride up on me.
I may try some AeroTech Pro shorts in their tall/long style. I've already had a regular size pair of their Pro shorts and like 'em. Minimal padding, but enough for my saddles. And The Black Bibs makes a longer inseam version of their basic bib shorts.

I think it's more style than function. Women can wear short shorts (and sleeveless jerseys) w/o issue. Men will get some strange looks, maybe a joke or two....

+1 on tri shorts.
IME, the longer inseams are more stable and comfortable on the bike. I own a couple pair of shorts with a shorter inseam, and they tend to rub or ride up on longer rides. I do not like them for anything more than putzing around town.
Embrace the tan lines - other cyclists will know what's up.

Nice to know there are some options out there. I don't like that many shorts almost go down to the kneecap.

+1 for The Black Bibs with short inseam. I have short thighs and most shorts go almost to the knee.
