Is there such a thing as counterfeit Dura Ace groupset?

Hello,
Due to online cycling stores from Europe are no longer shipping to the US ( CRC, Wiggle, etc), I’m looking for alternate sources. I found a “mini” Dura ace 9100 groupset on AliExpress for $550. But I wonder if the parts are genuine. Thus, my question if anyone has encountered knockoff Shimano parts?

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33006735821.html

thanks for helping

It's clearly some kind of scam but it would take quite an investment in tooling to produce a counterfeit group. More likely to be a bait and switch or you just never see any merchandise. Link for entertainment?

Aliexpress is a platform which many different companies use to sell.

Alibaba Group owns the platform but they themselves sell nothing to consumers.

Sellers are individuals or businesses in China who use the platform but are not part of Alibaba Group.

As far as AliExpress concern, I’ve not had any issues when problems arise. Also, PayPal will be providing some consumer protection. For the price, it’s very much the same as CRC, Wiggle, etc. when I was able to purchase through them.

My only worry is counterfeit Dura Ace parts. I did some googling and haven’t able to ascertain if there are knockoff Dura Ace parts in the market unlike Chinarello.

Thanks again

Either way $550 for just the shifters and derailleurs isn't exactly a killer deal. Jenson USA comes pretty close to that price now.

It is mechanical (non-Di2, not hydraulic) shifters, derailleurs and cables only. Cassette, chain, crankset, bottom bracket and brakes are not included.

The $550 price isn't out of line with what one would expect from China.

9100 rear derailleurs are $189 at Competitive Cyclist right now. The matching front derailleur is $94. DA mechanical shifters are $389/pair. That's $672 total + cables from a known retailer. Probably less if one shops around.

From the pics can't say....It is standard practice to use legit actual photos from actual products in marketing counterfeits.

That being said....I can all but guarantee there's no manufacturer warranty. Shimano, like everyone else, says to seek warranty remedy thru the retailer. And if the Aliexpress seller you buy from hasn't deleted their account and rebranded (standard practice with counterfit/grey-market sellers, to dodge claims) within 1-6 weeks of your transaction--I'd be amazed.

Yes, that's a long way from being a "group set." Looks like the complete is $1300+/-. You can still get that from legit seller Merlin for same or less. https://www.merlincycles.com/en-us/s...set-97454.html

As an aside. The vast majority of "counterfeit" products in this World are NOT a result of alternative manufacturers tooling up to make a parallel yet identical item. Most "counterfeits" in this World left the exact same production line as the "real" product yet are labelled as counterfeit because they didn't leave the factory in an "authorised" manner. They could possibly be seconds which the contracting company didn't want to see the light of day.
The Chinese are notorious for not wanting to waste anything.
Another possibility is that a contracting company may end a contract and contract with another company instead. They expect that under the terms of the contract that the first company will cease production of their product but that's a bit of wishful thinking. The production that was once "genuine" is now deemed "counterfeit".
