Gonna Hit This Tomorrow
I live in New Orleans. Basically below sea level. This 60 miler stays over 7700 feet, peaks at 10K, has a long category one climb that really steepens at the end. All told it has about 3500 feet of climbing. My average ride is about 30 miles with no climbing. About 20 miles of this loop is gravel. I am going to tackle it on my Lynskey Backroad. I did it twice last year. I was whining for mercy near the top of the climb. It's incredibly scenic with lots of wildlife. I'll take some pics and post them.

Enjoy your Colorado vacation.
I rode a cruiser provided by the Airbnb when I stayed in New Orleans. I can't imagine doing any more cycling than that.
If you end up in Southern Colorado, pm me, I'll share some of my favorite gravel rides around here.

We are going to make a quick stop in Pagosa Springs on the way home. I guess that's southwest CO huh? Many of my usual routes here in Crested Butte are blocked by snow. My wife has been coming out here for nearly 30 years each summer and has never seen so much snow so late in the year.

Nice. I'd say have fun, but climbing mountains never seems like fun to me. The only reason I work solo on my climbing is to avoid suffering so much in group rides and holding everyone back. And on the last few group rides I'm finally not the slowest. Yay, me. Don't get old!
If I had my druthers, was in my 20s again and had the illusion of being invulnerable, I'd like all my mountains aiming downward.

It's a gloriously beautiful morning. Not a cloud in the sky. Temp is about 39. Forecast high in the lower 70's. Humidity, what's that?

It was harder than I thought it was going to be. It was face numbing cold bombing down the mountain at 35+ MPH with temps in the high 30's. I layered and peeled as it warmed up. This was 3rd ride greater than 40 miles since my shoulder surgery last October. My conditioning told on me. Near the peak of the category 1 climb I was suffering. I did get off of the saddle a few times to snap off some pics. I did not see as much wildlife as I normally do, but there were a few good shots presented. Wildflower season is in full bloom and with a good bit of snow remaining on the peaks the scenery was post card pretty everywhere I looked.

The ride started with about a 400' drop from the town of Mt Crested Butte to Crested Butte. I tucked. What's the wind chill when the temp is 39 and the wind is blowing 40 MPH? I know I froze my face off.

I did a casual 20 miles on the MTB today. I rode out around lunch time and wasn't expecting to see much wildlife, so I didn't take a real camera.
