Meal Planning
What is the ideal evening meal and breakfast to prepare for a long ride the following day?
I'm experimenting with high energy, high protein. But not sure what the best mix is to avoid being too energized before bedtime. And I want to avoid a heavy breakfast when riding in hot weather. Any ideas? |
Something you are used to and something fairly bland.

This got me through a hard day of climbing while on tour last month. Pasta with salmon, etc.

Carbs and protein! Looks good

I cook nearly all my meals from scratch at home. When I am out on the road I enjoy doing the same, especially since a lot of restaurants in areas where I tour don't serve up the healthiest fare. Lots of burgers, pizza and fried foods. My body doesn't run well on that stuff day after day.

A day of climbing on that quantity? Good night! Make it a serving for three to fuel me!

I've read that animal protein before bed can help you sleep

What about salads?

A long ride? How long is it? 100 miles? 50 miles?
100 miles and refueling during the ride will be needed. The week before eating high protein foods will benefit you. Not sure the night before is going to be much different than the other nights of the week. 50 miles can be done without refueling at moderate pace. Again, high protein foods the day before and an energy bar if needed during the ride. Disclosure: I am not a nutritionist, nor do I play one on TV or the internet. Protein, starch, veggies. Just like mom used to make.
