Dale, this shot is amazing!

It was a good day to swim with salmon last year :)

This year I got a little skunked on salmon shots but did a couple of good ones in a small tributary. Again, same camera, no flash natural light:

I asked Santa to bring me a Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II last Christmas - replaced a Canon PowerShot ELPH 100 HS. The G9 is a bit larger but is still small. Sensor a big improvement over the ELPH's. Sometimes use the ELPH mounted on the handlebars of our tandem. Carry the G9 most of the time - in a bag on the back of the seat.

Yes, I had an S90 for a long time until my wife dropped it one too many times. I then bought a second hand S95 on EBay. I think the most recent of that series is the S105. I know the SX series take great pictures and may do you very well but for me the ability to store RAW images was important and, as far as I'm aware, the SX series don't do that. You have to step up to the G series for that and they are both bulkier and more expensive.

This is what I had in mind, to use a handlebar bag to carry said camera, not stow it in a jersey pocket. The S90 or S95 is a possibility. There's also a Sony with a Zeiss lens and 1" sensor I'm considering. Can't recall the model off the top of my head. CRS, you know. I'm more interested in stills rather than video at present.

Yes, Sony make some seriously good compact cameras. If you want to see independent test a very good site to look at is DPReview.

Great site for camera fans, for sure. Can’t tell you how many hours I’ve spent there, doing research in the past. :D

B&H Photo has a good selection of used cameras, but I’ll check eBay and CL. No rush at this point.

I have used a Sony NEX6 for years and it has worn out. Now waiting for the next iteration, the a6100, due out on Oct 25.

Sony RX100 series is small, has a real zoom lens, shoots raw. Not cheap but there are some good deals on used/demos around. The Sony 6000 series is a great camera if you want something on the larger side. I have an A6400 takes amazing pics.

I've been using a Fiji Film QX1 for years. Its 25mm lens is wide enough, its f/1.8 aperture is bright enough, its 12 frames per second in continuous shooting are fast enough, its 12 megapixels are still plenty even today, and it's capable of 1920x1080/60p video. And the battery is USB-rechargeable in-camera. Treat it like you would your cellphone anfd you're always in business.
