About 3 yrs ago. A new Guru Sidero (steel) with all SRAM Rival and Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels that had been ridden about 6 times for $1200. From a sponsored tri-athlete friend.

Ford Focus? I had an ST. Now have a Fiesta ST. Love them. Actually that is a Fiesta isn't it?

Now all you need is a front wheel and you will have a full bike for just a little more than a little over a grand!

Haha, well I'm kind of new to bikes, and posted this question partly to reach the ten post threshold so I can post photos and links. But I recently got a pretty cool 70s Schwinn Sprint roadbike for $60. It's in good shape, looks unique, and from what I gather usually runs for a bit more than $60.

Brand new 2010 Orbea Orca with full Ultegra in beautiful white and blue for about $1500. On closeout. It was unfortunately stolen, so no pictures.

Mind you I rebuilt all these bikes. Some of them were missing wheels,etc.etc.
You just have to be resourceful and patient.

Coming home from Eroica last April, I heard about a barn find Legnano Gran Premio for $50. I stopped to check it out, and brought it home. The nice BF member also tossed in a spare set of Campy large flange hubs. The frame is a little small for me, but we both survived the $100 Clunker Challenge. It's a real patina bike, but fun to ride.

As found, 20 years in the barn, tires still held air!

Barn find '61 along with my Eroica ride, '64 Roma Olympiade, had since new.

Freebie Campy hubs, have not touched them. Freewheel removal will be challenging.

My $100 Challenge ride at the Rose Bowl ride.

Specialized Hardrock 29er

I found this bike about a year ago on Craigslist for $200, with only about 40 miles on it. The first owner rode it for 20 miles and got a shoulder injury and sold it to the person I bought it from, who then rode it 10-20 miles. It was basically new. One of the best purchases Iíve made! So much fun on trails!

2014 Felt F2. I had ordered an F4 but apparently it was sold out. I waited a couple weeks after ordering and found out I would not get the bike I ordered and was rewarded after what seemed like 4-6 more weeks with the F2. F4 was $2999 and the F2 was $5149. The actual price I paid was $2758. Best bike I have ever owned and love riding it.

i july 2019 bought a 2015 specialized roubaix expert with the SL4 frame, 11 speed ultegra electronic shifting, disc brakes, CF zipp wheels, CF bars and stem on ebay for $2300 shipped. bicycle blue book lists MSRP of $9K new.
there was a special sale on ebay that took 15% off purchase on checkout. then there was a special incentive to use bill me later financing for another 15% off. it has been paid off so $0 in interest charges. i got $690 off. purchase price was $1610 after discounts.
i then sold the CF Zipp wheels, carbon bar and stem for $1k and got new Vuletta disc wheels with new continental gatorskin tires and tubes, a alloy bar from a 08 roubaix with vibration dampener and stem on trade.
so after wheeling and dealing i bought a 2015 specialized roubaix expert with SL4 frame, 11 speed electronic shifting, disc brake Vuletta wheels for $610, bike when new had list price of $9K.

yes i know it was a downgrade to loose the CF parts. i an a clidesdale at 245# at the time so weight savings with CF parts is irrelevant to me. also i was worried about the strength of the CF wheels holding my weight. i was mostly interested in the electronic shifting and upgrading from my 2010 roubaix elite with the SL2 frame.
pic is of when wheel buyer offered me the OEM Axis wheels that were messed up so he bought me new Vuletta wheels.

Apologies for the NDS picture, but you get the idea. Stock Mercier Kilo WT I bought for $430 about five years ago. I threw the chain into the rear wheel soon after getting it (I didn't know at that time how to properly tension a chain) and bought a new pair of heavy as hell 36 spoke cup and cone wheels from Nashbar for $60. I put on some M540 pedals, a $7 Chinese 19t freehub (which has been perfect for thousands of miles) a couple of Elite Gel Cuissi cages, a set of SKS Chromoplastic fenders (leaving a gap in the rear to get the wheel out easily) and some 36mm Clement MSO tires. I recently swapped the stem for a $15 shorter one you see here. The fit is pretty dialed now. Most of the other stuff I had lying around at the time I bought the bike. That's about it. I haven't even replaced the chain yet as the drivetrain is really stout 1/8 stuff that will seemingly last forever. I need to cut the steerer at some point, but I don't really care. For a total of around $600, I have a new, basically indestructible single speed gravel bike with a Reynolds 520 frame that handles well and requires essentially no maintenance despite riding it in some really bad conditions. I've done 4 hour rides on this without issue. I total, this bike costs less than the stem/handlebar I have on my road bike, lol.

Free. 1995 Trek 8000 rigid MTB. It was missing handlebars, grips, brake levers, shifters, and the seat was trashed (tires and tubes were OK). I scrounged through my spare parts and found everything I needed except a shifter (bought a twist grip for <$10) to get it running as a cruiser bike. Still have it and it gets regular use as a errand bike and commuter.

I've had several really good deals. The first was several years ago. CL ad said "Bike. $5" Picture of red mountain bike lying in the yard wasn't very informative so I arranged to come see. 1990 Diamondback Apex (Avenir branded all over as well) with full shiny silver LX components in great condition. Turns out it was a divorce sale and the ex-wife was tired of waiting for her ex-husband to come get his damn bike. And came with 2nd wheelset.

Recently I've been frequenting our local bike co-ops "Salvage Sunday" event. They gets lots of donations - more than they can use, and it's kind of random from week to week what they decide to offload but it includes full bikes, frames, wheels, and bins of random components. Everything is $.50/pound. The good stuff goes fast and I've learned to show up early. A couple weeks ago I picked up a 20' 1990 Trek 930 mtb. Lugged, Wisconsin-made, complete except for wheels. $10. A couple months ago I picked up (complete but no wheels) a Japanese lugged Schwinn Traveler, a rigid Specialized Rockhopper, a Kona Fire Mountain, and a complete Diamondback Topanga step-through for a total of $42 (84 pounds with assorted other bits. This last Sunday I picked up a large (25") 1984 triple-butted Miyata Two-Ten in great condition, also $10.

And I recently sold a 1985 Schwinn High Sierra - the one with Suntour Roller-Cam brakes, that I found left on the curb by a neighbor for recycling. It was in rough shape but cleaned up real well.

My first road bike was a raleigh r600, cost $100 from a coworker and was equipped with 8 speed 105 groupset from the mid 90's. Heck of a deal and I got a lot of miles out of it.

My current CX bike cost $700 brand new at a local shop as a closeout. I got it late 2017 and it has cantilever brakes and 2x11 speed, so it's not really what CX racers look for these days with disc brakes and 1x setups, but I'm competitive enough on it. As a bit of an industry rant, I find it pretty ridiculous that makers can't (won't) produce sub $1000 CX/gravel bikes, when it's so easy to get a $700 entry level road bike brand new from every major brand. I think the cost keeps people like my wife from trying out the sport, who see stuff over $1k as a steep investment (and to be fair it is a lot to be throwing at something someone may or may not really enjoy). Rant over!

I wanted a Specialized Como but did not want to pay the $2.8K plus. My LBS turned over their inventory every six months. I was able to get from their rental inventory a 2019 Como 2.0 for $1.5K.

I got a ďrealĒ full suspension mountain bike for $1100 shipped a few years ago. It was a womenís version of a budget version of a $2000 ish Diamondback sold thru Performance/Nashbar (RIP). I loved it but it just wasnít versatile enough and I sold it in less than a year for I think $200 less than I paid. Iíll definitely get something like it again but Iíll never get the same kind of deal.

I got a Raleigh Marathon for ten dollars. It had that wrong seatpost so I had to purchase that. I got a Trek aluminum 1000 for twenty bucks, missing the saddle and seatpost. Thatís two cheap bikes that needed seatpost.

Itís nothing special, but about 25 years ago I paid $20 for a 1983 Bridgestone 300 at a flea market. After some new bar tape and a saddle (and tires over the years) that steel monster has countless miles on it!! Best $20 I ever spent.
