Cateye Barfly

Just bought Cateye OF-100. How do i install it properly? Sorry for the noob question but i wanna be sure i donít break it and buy another one. Do i remove the bartape and brifter first? I thought it was as easy as removing the bolt and opening it wide enough to slide thru the dropbar. But it looks like itís not that flexible and if i force it to open wide to fit into the bar, it might snap.

EDIT: Was able to force it in. I thought it would break if forced, but didnít.

Related question: When installing Cateye cyclocomputer with a barfly, the speed sensor should be on the left side of the fork, is this correct? Angle seems a bit far if itís on the right side.
