Shimano Flight Deck computer autoscrolling
I thought I would try here, again to see if I could get some troubleshooting help on how to get my "Flight Deck" computer to behave.
What I have: Dura Ace 7800 2x10 speed road bike with the Flight deck wiring kit and matching computer. (Sorry, I'm at work right now and don't recall the parts number for the wiring kit or dashboard computer). The problem: 2 things 1) it thinks it is in the big chainring all the time. and 2) it scrolls through the menus on its own with no input from me. It also re-sets the trip distance to zero randomly in the middle of rides with no input from me. I did review the troubleshooting information that is one one or two pages in the back of the provided manual. I'm using "Hudz" aftermarket brake hoods but the buttons do make contact like they should. I got the bike used but the shifters were in good shape and had the covers on them and they did not appear to have ever been set up to use the Flight Deck system. I realize that almost no one uses this wired system anymore so almost no one cares about these and just brush them aside as a 1990's obsolete technology. I really like the cadence function and the gear display. I also really like this generation of Dura Ace parts. So if anyone is familiar with proper set up and trouble shooting of the old Shimano Flight Deck wired cyclometer - that would be great! |
Did you pull the battery out for a while? That would be the first thing I'd try

I have 3x9 Flight Deck on my other road bike and it also will scroll itself automatically but not nearly as often. Also, that bike "knows" which of the 3 front chainrings is in use almost all the time, which is reassuring to me. Keep the suggestions coming, please. |
How many buttons on the right shifter? The early models had both operating buttons on the right side and it was easy to inadvertently activate one of them. Later models had one button on each shifter.
