So the consensus - and you asked for input - is that it's polished aluminum. Yes, aluminum polishes to a nice shine and will stay that shiny for a long long time. I would say that every single bike I've owned in the past 30 years has aluminum handlebars, many of which have been very shiny, at least on the parts that weren't covered with bar tape..

Finally, you're nowhere near the bike and obviously won't be riding it for a while. So why go on and on and on arguing with those of us - again whose opinions you've asked - who believe the bars are shiny aluminum, not titanium or stainless steel.

When you get back to the bike, decide for yourself. Come back here and tell us we're wrong so we can learn of this highly unusual thing. It would be highly, highly (highly) rare that your non-magnetic bars are not aluminum. I, for one, would really like to know.
If you saw stainless steel and aluminum, would there be any doubt in your mind which is which because of the appearance?

Sometimes highly unusual things happen.

The bike has a lot of aluminum on it. The handle bars are clearly different. They look like stainless steel.

Can you accept, because I have seen it, I am sure it is not aluminum.

I am not so familiar with titanium, and whether it could look like stainless steel, so I asked the question.

Stainless steel handlebars are not so expensive, so they are not so unlikely to be used.

We don't know when they were fitted. It may or may not have been some time after the bike was new.

Although the bike is still like new.

Most bikes like that one obviously did not have stainless steel handlebars. But this one is one of those unlikely things that did happen.

The question never was, what kind of handlebars did bikes like this normally come out with.

The question was: The handlebars are a shiny metal with a wire brush finish. How could I tell if they are titanium or stainless steel? What is the difference in the appearance of titanium and stainless steel? Could they be something other than titanium or stainless steel?

I am amazed that people who have not seen it, cant accept unusual things can happen.

When I return, in several months time, I will look into it in more detail. Most people will have forgotten about this thread by then.

What you're saying is true, but my opinion remains. That's why I'm interested in what you decide when you're back to the bike.

I'm amazed you asked a question without providing sufficient information and you keep complaining that you aren't getting the answer you want.

I'm amazed that you keep expecting people to change their answer (based on what they know about the limited information you provided) to conform to information only you know (what you saw but keep describing in a poor/confusing way).

I'm amazed you think things work like that.

Didn't OP ask this very same question a couple of months ago with similar results? OP not believing what other people were telling him.

Wait, is this the same guy who thought his whole entry level bike was titanium?

I think it was, I remember the picture being very similar at least. I just can't find it anymore, even through Google. Did that thread get deleted?
