Part of the runner thing (and maybe cyclist too) is that despite being physically active and possibly even darn athletic......lazy AF when it comes to riding or running routes with hills.
Typical larger thoroughfares and ones with bike lanes tend to be a bit flatter. Sure, some of the areas posted might be total pancakes. But, I ride and run in neighborhoods by me where I rarely in non-pandemic times don't spot many cars or people. But it is about 80 to 100 feet per mile elevation. So perhaps 600ft for a 10mi run or 1800 ft for 20mi bike ride. Not huge, but not the fastest breeze along ride or runs either. |
Perhaps it's only a suburban thing, and maybe more common in NJ... There are probably 60-70% fewer cars on local roads, but many of them are going 20-25% faster. I am more worried about a car related accident now, than I was before the crisis. I was looking forward to riding on the roads around Bergen County, as my one safe "out". I'm over 60, diabetic, and a lifetime of athsma. But seeing how fast local traffic has become,
(after all, cops have more important things to do, and who the heck would want to interact with a possible Covid-19 carrier over a speeding ticket?), I am riding a 1/2 mile semi closed piece of road, back and forth, and setting up a Nordic Track outside my door. Get well soon, world. Warm regards, Eric PS I'll put on my spray painting mask and goggles to go to CVS today. (Sorry I tossed my old painting jumpsuit out last fall.) Still, I will shed my outer clothing including shoes, (did "shoes able to carry virus" come as a surprise, for Pete"s sake?) outside and leave it all on a bench for 5 days... The new abnormal. PPS What little I've seen, not a lot of bike riders out either. |
