I thought of posting photos but I took the bike to the shop recently and it's there waiting for a more angled stem and a wider/more angled Drop bar, I think the "cowbell". I wanted MORE COWBELL. No just kidding, I think it's the Cowchipper 52cm. I think that will remedy everything to the point where I will be able to live with it enough that I can practice/keep riding away the rest of the difference. I see how the drop bars are faster for the most part but how the bike doesn't fit is painfully obvious now.

Months ago I wasn't a huge fan of the drop bar but it didn't matter because my skills were less. I am still on the steep part of the learning curve and the current setup is holding me back because of poor fitment. I can go faster than I can control the bike due to discomfort and poor angles whereas 2-3 months ago I could not. Parts should arrive this week and the shop is busy with a backlog so later this month should be ready. It didn't occur to me that fitment was that important. Growing up I just thought there were kid bikes for little kids and adult bikes and that's it you hopped on one, you more or less adjusted the seat and started pedaling off to the races. Now I realize there's a lot more to it than that. Thanks for the very helpful replies.

Been a while since I've been around but I wanted to give closure to this post. I got the most angled and long stem possible from Salsa and after that everything was well with my Warbird.

After cyling for 2-3 years and doing it pretty seriously for the last 12-18 months I might say I am a progressing intermediate beyond my novice time. I have found Flat Bars to be easier to deal with. With flat bars one size mostly fits all due to the upright riding position. Drop bars are generally better but they are more difficult to make work for different people depending on height and flexibility.

I post this in case the thread googles with people who might wonder why their brand shiny new uber expensive, high end drop bar bike is terribly uncomfortable and the truth is simple: it doesn't fit you, but the real truth is even easier. All you have to do is get the bike fitted by a reputable shop and more than likely it will work. Glad to have my Salsa bikes, along with all my other outdoors pursuits they were a Godsend with everything closed. I was always mostly outdoors even before the coronacraziness but glad to be in this lifestyle.
