I don't think there's anything wrong with posting that "I've seen x bad behavior by cyclists repeatedly, don't do that" on a bicycle forum, and find it weird that people would consider that trolling. If this kind of littering is occurring, that's highly relevant to bicyclists because a) it's obvious that bicyclists are doing it and b) the stuff is most likely to pose a hazard to other bicyclists.
If you're littering while biking, knock it off. If not, why are you offended by the OP? I haven't witnessed this kind of littering, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening.
I really don't get the relevance of the beer can thing. Is that whataboutism, or is it two wrongs make a right?

Seems like folks love to put roadies down on this forum, and hold this sanctimonious attitude like their crap doesn’t stink. These are usually the same people shouting “steal is real!” and going on about how they just love their friction shifters and cantilever brakes.

This topic reminds me of the "broken windows theory". People don't think litter is a big deal, but it's the symptom of a much larger societal problem.

I dont think I have ever seen a CO2 cartridge. What I see is the idiotic plastic water bottles, and the little one shot booze bottles. Calif has banned plastic straws, but allows bottled water. How many straws does it take to make one plastic water bottle? Plastic water bottles should be banned.

Literally none of that is in his post, you're projecting into it for some reason. He used the phrase "cycling slobs" and I think it's a fair assumption that anyone who has been throwing those things around is indeed a) a cyclist and b) a slob. Nowhere does the word "snob" in the post or the title of the thread.
And, BTW, I'm a roadie myself.

If you've never seen a spent CO2 cartridge or a punctured tube lying on the ground, you either a) don't ride where large numbers of cyclists ride, b) live someplace fancy, or c) both a and b.
I do not live someplace fancy, so spent CO2s are commonplace. Get near the start of any trail or MUP, and you're sure to find Clif wrappers, all sorts of Gu stuff, etc.
It's roadies and the roadie mentality. I've never seen a big hybrid or MTB tube on the ground. Exclusively the 700x23/25 variety-- you know, the same guys that use CO2.

Secondarily, as a guy who loves friction shifting, cantilever brakes and steel frames, I'd appreciate it if you took that chip off your shoulder. I guess some retrogrouch was mean to you one time, but your remarks are starting to feel kinda personal.

And the blown out semi tires. And the eucalyptus debris; so much eucalyptus debris. I've had to stop five or six times to pull sticks, branches, and the occasional limb off the shoulder.
I'm very sorry about your wife; I hope she recovered completely. As someone else said, maybe she could try getting back on the bike. It would be hard at first, but so worth it. I'll bet she'd love the Waterfront Trail.

The real problem with banana peels is they're hard to avoid--I tend to miss them while watching the skies for falling pianos.
