Yakima ridgeback bike rack
Hello,
I am new here. I am a fairly regular cyclist and recently got a new Honda Pilot. My trek bike no longer fit well in the car so I had a 2 inch trailer receiver installed and purchased a Yakima Ridgeback 2 bike rack in the 2 bike size.
It said it installed in five minutes but I'm having a hard time understanding what the problem is.
The shank of the rack has an anti rattle wedge attached to it. It protrudes slightly out of the shank which makes it wider than 2 inches and it will not slide into the receiver.
i can't figure out what I am doing wrong.
Can anyone help?
Thank you
Laura Baker

You have to unscrew the knob so the wedge can move forward and fit within the receiver.
I also wiggle the rack a bit as I tighten the knob for a good tight install.

Maybe you simply don't have the knob backed out far enough to make the assembly small enough to install it into the hitch, all of the adjusting pieces should be loose enough to rattle before tightening up to fit securely in the receiver. Also, I keep it lubed lightly, especially the long screw that loosens the shank as you call it. I use anti seize compound, use WD40 if you have nothing else, that screw is pretty small in diameter and I didn't want it snapping if it froze up, it will also keep the "shank" from freezing up and it has on mine. If you keep it in the receiver for long lengths of time it will corrode. I cut up small pieces of microfiber towel to protect the paint from the zip strips scuffing the paint, which they have somewhat. I wanted something lighter like the KUAT, but the locking knob works really well and I didn't like the separate locking pin of the KUAT. I use a larger diameter cable bought at the local bike shop to secure the bike to the hitch with a good lock when I travel or can't keep my eyes on the bike, but don't want to start a security debate. Pretty nice rack overall (for a hang-on), with nice features. Just adding a little advise, assuming you have it figured out by now.
