does more float equal more relief for pads of feet

i read that somewhere in my metatarsal pain research today. so i was thinking of getting some cleats with more float. if so can anyone recommend some of those for a SPD cleat.

i use Time Xpro on one bike but its 3 cleat. Amazing float. So I need a pedal solution for 2 cleat.

Float is for your knees. You need firm soled shoe and proper insoles is my guess. The specialized dealers used to have a deal you stood on to know which of their insoles would fit you. I use only their medium insoles no matter what bike shoes I buy.

Sorry about your foot impediment but.... BF etiquette hint- you've started three separate threads today about your feet. If you keep it all in one thread you are less likely to get repetitive replies. Appropriate caps are appreciated as well, a sign of respect for those you are asking to help you.:thumb:

Specialized Retul makes custom insoles. They're great, but they're spendy. If your toes burn or go numb, shim your cleats.

What you may be feel in the way of foot pain may be coming from your shoes being too narrow. Try cycling shoes that actually fit the width of you foot.

And maybe a size larger than you normally wear for a regular shoe.

That is exactly what I have done. And further since I have a wide foot and a very high instep, I try to leave the shoelaces down by the toe loose.

Indeed, I've got velcro instead of laces and I just barely snug them up, not tight in any sense, except that they stay on my feet. That, a custom insole, and a 2 degree cleat wedge removed all the foot pain and numbness of my left, outer toes.

Before, they would get numb after about 10 miles or so; now, not at all over any distance I ride.

I like clipless because it allows me to lift my foot more often off the pedal and wiggle my toes while riding. Helps (along with looser laces). I don't think the brand of clipless matters though. It's all about the shoe. The sole should be stiff enough that you could use egg beaters if you wished.

I think we need a better description of the pain. Top, bottom, along the length, at the ball, all metatarsals or 1, 2, 3, or 4, both feet or just one? How far do you usually ride between breaks (if any)? When does the pain show up? How tight is the shoe on the foot/feet that hurt(s)?

your shoe might be too flat on the inside causing pressure points , there is no real solution , other than find an insole that can mold to your foot , or a mold-able shoe , but those are usualy carbon and not very durable !
