What size is my seat post?
 

Hello all, I have a 2020 Giant Escape 2 Disc, and want to upgrade my seat post. But can't find the dimensions anywhere. Tried Google too. Any one know the size of this thing? It's also shaped weird, not quite round. Thanks.

Buy a Vernier caliper. Doesn't have to be a fancy one. If you're gonna tinker with bikes "regularly" it'll soon come in handy again.
OTOH, finding an aftrmarket off-round seatpost may be challenging. Don't think I've ever seen one.
There's only one round, but any number of ellipses, teardrops etc.
I've seen one or two adapters from off-round to cylindrical though.
What do you expect to gain from your upgrade?

Well I'm trying to upgrade to a suspension seatpost, since this hybrid bike has no suspension at all. Hoping to get some more comfort on the road.

I doubt a low end bike is going to have anything other than a round seat tube. Pull the seat post out, there's usually a size stamped/etched on the post. Failing that, go with dabac recommendation. Get a set of calipers. Or go back to the shop you got the bike from and ask them.

Welcome to proprietary parts. That bike is listed as having Giant's D-Fuse seatpost, which is "D" shaped for compliance. The only thing you can replace it with is another Giant D-Fuse seatpost.

Don't know what kind of terrain your riding on but I wouldn't consider a suspension seat post an upgrade in any condition. Sounds better than the results to me. For the road just raise out of the saddle for rough sections. Real off-road riding yes to shock fork and suspension frame MtB. For the road and bike path just works against ya.

If you are upgrading to a suspension post then the simplest solution is to simply bring the seatpost to the shoppe. You can line up the old post with the new one and they will have same diameter.

That model uses Giant's D Fuse seat post. The seat post and seat tube are D-shaped, not round:

A suspension seatpost is not going to be an option. What tire pressure are you running? Overinflated tires can be very uncomfortable. Giant lists this bike as having 700 x 38 tires. Anything over 50 psi will probably be too much

maybe fit one of Brooks double coil sprung saddles? Flier is their popular B17 , but with springs..

If it is a 2020, it has Giant's proprietary D-Fuse (d-shaped) seatpost, as others have said. You are stuck with that; nothing else will fit.

You can 'upgrade', but it will have to be a Giant D-Fuse seatpost, e.g. a carbon one as opposed to your aluminum one.

Well damn, sucks for the OP. Unless Giant offers an adapter for their proprietary standard. WTF?

It's bad enough that there are umpteen bottom bracket and head set "standards" to deal with.

There's always something like the Rinsten Spring style adapter.. though can't say I'd ever want to try and use one.

It's not a suspension seatpost. Giant claims the D shape, among other things, better absorbs shock, but there is no suspension mechanism.

Ah ha ! the engineers made it intentionally weaker across the back by making that side flat, so it would flex..


You bought into more technology than you really needed.. It appears.. and now are facing the Proprietary components dilemma..
