What Do You Enjoy the Most About Cycling?
There are many reasons we do what we do considering the discomfort, sometimes pain and crashes. There is the scenery, health, conquering goals, competition, epic descents, feeling fit or what ever. If you are into anaerobic pain, confess.
My REAL enjoyment is when my quads feel like strong pistons just powering me through the ride almost effortlessly. |
I used to get runner's high when I rode. Would get this warm rush moving from my skull down to my toes. Would suddenly feel like I was floating, all pain disappeared, extremities would tingle, even my hearing would change to where all I heard was my breathing and the sound of the tires on the pavement.
Don't get it to that intensity anymore but always to some degree. Funny, I can get close to that same feeling just seeing a bike cruise along the bike path. I guess it is the feeling like I am flying, free from the earth, free from work and home worries, nothing to do but enjoy the ride. Nowadays I like cruising the local MUP when it is packed with people, having to slow down and practically stop for families with kids. I like the recumbent for that best, puts you eye level, face to face with walkers. Night to meet your neighbors, miss having young kids. |
Not waving at other cyclists.
|
The sense that over a lifetime, this activity has improved my stress response, given me vitality, improved my ability to be present and understanding in my marriage, and will benefit my longevity.
|
To begin with....everything

The cold beer afterwards. |
impeding vehicles in the speed lane, aiming for the largest pothole on 700x25s

It makes me look fantastic.

My REAL enjoyment is when my There are important Biek Forms conventions to be observed.:) |
Riding a bike.
|
I like the part where I ride a bike.
Cycling, in other words. |
me time
|
Being outside and fresh air. It also relaxes my body and mind.
In the long run it's cheaper than a therapist and taking drugs to de-stress. The physical health benefits are a plus. And in the year of Covid... it helps the days pass by. |
Riding place I've never been before. Exploring on a bike.
|
I'm just in it for the shorts
See, I've been wearing the shorts for years, and then someone told me that if I buy a bicycle, I can keep the shorts, lose the judgement So here we are! |
Fresh air sunshine, and time to be alone to ponder the days news. The exercise helps keep the weight down.
|
I was once an avid hiker and would spend many afternoons wandering in the Sierras. Age and back injuries have restricted my hikes to what I now consider “walks”. Cycling has restored my ability to be out for hours seeing lots of varied country.
Im too old to start racing but I did do my first century and was surprised how easily I did it. I’ve got a number of good years still left and much of it will be on a bicycle. |
Wait! I thought biking was a lousy form of exercise!
What I don't like: cars, some other bikers (the ones who sneak up on other bikers without warning), and headwinds. The rest I like more than enough to make up for the stuff I don't like. |
The solitude on solo rides and the camaraderie on group rides.
|
Even if it weren't great exercise, I'd do it because it's fun. Someone described it as the closest thing to flying. Plus, you meet great people and see great places.
And, there is an unlimited amount of gear and gadgets and minutiae to argue about. And, my family never has to worry about what to buy me for my birthday. |
What Do You Enjoy the Most About Cycling?
Freedom |
probably the capacity to experience life at the perfect pace and to drink in the little things you would never see driving and would never reach hiking/walking.
|
My favorite part about riding is that I get to experience a version of my city that is completely unknown to 90% of the people who live here.
