Bikes: Masi Team 3V, Diamond Back road bike that I built through trading massage with my wonderful messenger friends in Sea-town! I just tore it down to build my Masi. This bike served me well for the last 4 years!

Aluminium Fork?

I have a Masi Team 3V that I believe was built in the Mondonico shop in Italy, but distributed by Torelli in the US.
My question is:
How do I know what my fork is made of?
It has no markings at the shoulders (just round)
The left side has an "Aussie" decal and the right side has a "Michelin" decal.
If anyone can help, I can send pictures via email.

1. does a magnet stick to it? yes = steel.
2. is it metal? no = carbon. (if you tap it with a fingernail, you should be able to tell the difference)

but that's all the help i can come up with - as for determining what metal it may be (other than ferrous/non-ferrous), i got no clue.
