I live in a 26 floor apartment building. Even if a person knows what building I live in I don't find this to be a particular invasion of privacy given that they don't know exactly where in the building I live.

That was an ugly incident, but the wrong guy was not fired. I don't know about SJW, it was a criminal incident, and the perpetrator was found. Not sure how, I think from pictures.
That incident did make me think about turning off flybys, but I didn't do it.

I can't say I honestly use heat maps to do routes; typically a lot easier to search for other routes that others have already created, or to check out local cycling clubs' ride libraries. That said, fwiw RWGPS is IMO a better implementation of heatmaps, with light blue to dark red spectrum that's easier to see relative popularity of roads used by cyclists, eg. your area

If you knew the area, you would know that that's still not terribly helpful. Going by this would have you on a lot of bike trails, some of them crushed limestone, some teeming with families with kids, dogs, etc. Some of these more popular routes are roads with nice shoulders, but others are bike paths running along side 45mph roads without a shoulder that most road cyclists would avoid when solo. Some routes make sense in one direction, but not the other. Again, there's a range of cycling sensibilities in the area and heat maps aren't a complete picture. The eyeball test, on the other hand, is often a pretty good filter; seeing someone on their bike gives me a much better sense of whether or not our sensibilities might mesh.

That's a benefit of urban settings, mid-size cities or rural areas do not have that luxury.

The Flyby date was close to the supposed incident, then the SJW/Twitter army used that flyby data to doxx, harrass, and someone correct me if I am wrong, get that guy fired from his job.
Was that the guy on a mutl-use path harassing some ladies putting up some posters around the time of the George Floyd 'incident' I know they tracked the wrong guy initially didn't realize he got fired.

There was another case of a guy wrongfully accused of a break-in because he was riding around a house in the time from of the robbery

Oh, I agree. I certainly would use the privacy settings if I was living in a single family house.

Thanks. I couldn't remember if he got fired or not. I even tried to find an article on it and couldn't (was at work and only had a short break to look it up).
I also turned off my flybys for a short bit. But I liked that functionality to give kudos to people I meet along the way, or help identify people I follow on Strava. Even after it was shut down last week, I've turned mine back on.
