Pinarello vs Bianchi

While I love my Pinarello Angliru I tried the Bianchi Aria and now I'm completely torn.

The Pinerallo is smoother but with a compact chain ring it's not as speedy as the Aria. The Aria just wants to get up and go. The Aria is also a more compact frame making it more agile but a different kind of smooth. To me the Pinerallo with its longer wheelbase and relaxed frame geometry is more cruiser?

Wish I had the money to keep the Pinerallo and buy the Bianchi, best of both worlds, but budget won't allow that :/

Well, you already HAVE the Pinarello, so I'd say ride the hell out of it while saving up for N+1. Then get something different, and ride both of them. I have 4 bikes, which I acquired over 23 years. They each have their own attributes, and sometimes I'm more in the mood for one than the other. Right now, I think I'll go ride my own Bianchi....

Unless you routinely find yourself at the extreme limits of either bike's gearing, this is likely a non-issue in terms of speed. Even then, probably a trivial issue.

Long wheelbase and slack geo ...for a road bike?

I have one of those along with a pair of steep geo bikes and a classic mtb with puffy road tires (that’re likely going to get swapped with Herses next year).

I kinda hate that slack roadbike (Kona Roadhouse). It’s neither fast nor good at cruising. It’s super stiff compared to my 531 frames which makes sprinting/climbing interesting if I only use it once a month. That stiffness also means that when I fit a rack and fully pack the panniers with groceries, suddenly its steeley springiness shows up.

I only keep it 1) sentimental reasons 2) awesome paint 3) sloped top tube and disc brakes makes it kinda fashionable in my non-cyclist town (it doesn’t look like a DUI bike)

It’s a lot like a base BMW 5 sedan- better than a lot of other bikes while not really being great at any one thing. kinda pointless as a bike.

my others are the bike equivalents of a Corvette Z06 and a lightly built up Jeep XJ 4.0HO. #funmachines

No. The Bianchi is a 53 and the Pinerallo is a 52. Yet because of Pinerallo's weird sizing it's actually almost an inch and a half taller at the top tube

I get that. The Pinerallo isn't a bad bike but like you say is it great at any one thing? Also for being full carbon it's a bit on the heavy side being just about 21lbs. The Aria is just a tad over 17lbs, that almost 4lbs difference I notice when riding. The Pinerallo does have sentimental value to me, I road my first 100 plus mile ride on it, I road for kids cancer on it, and the colorway is freakin sweet!

I did post the Pinerallo for sale, I guess we'll see what happens.

My preference is slack geometry. I find zero difference in performance between slack and steep geometry when out on the road. If crit racing the steep and short frame may be favored, however is not mandatory. Since I no longer race I no longer ride bikes with short and steep frames. Smooth and easy riding is my preference these days.

The Aria is a nice no non-sense bike. I love the short ultra chunky rear on that bike.

With a name like Angliru, I would expect a compact crank.
