Manufacturer of Performance Bike's Branded inner tubes
 

Wasn't sure this belonged in Bike Mechanics so I put it here, just in case :)

Does anyone know who produced the Forte branded mtb inner tubes for PB? I used to buy them and have always been pleased at how long they lasted (except if I ran over glass, nails, staples, etc.). Since PB has been vastly revamped :( I've been wanting to buy more of the Forte tubes. The only info I have was from one of the boxes that they were made/sourced in Taiwan. It'd be nice to know if that same manufacturer was producing teh same tubes for another, more viable and prevalent outlet.

I'd guess the producer varied over the years, depending on who gave the best price for the specs.

I took a quick look at the 'stash' I picked up when they were closing down and there's no brand manufacturer on the tubes (700 and 26 sizes). They're just stamped with 'FORTE - Made in Taiwan", no manufacturer's I.D. printed or molded onto the rubber like a lot of other tubes.

I guess I shouldn't have expected to get a specific answer....sigh....thanks for the replies. I'll have to investigate a different approach to figuring something out.

While I'm here, tho....anyone have any recommendations for reasonably priced, reasonable quality tubes for mtb (26x1.95)? Any "brands" I should stay away from? Thx.

Just buy some standard kenda tubes and call it a day.
...or Bontrager, specialized, co-op, etc.
kenda makes tubes for a lot of other brands, for what its worth.
26" tubes sold at a bike shop will completely work for years to come.

Except for some overpriced brand names ($30 Schwalbe, anyone?), tubes are generic. What can you get at a decent, but not ridiculously low, price?

I started buying XLC mountain bike tubes (presta) because they didn’t lose air between rides. They will lose air over time, but from one day to the next, or 3-4 days, they seem to keep their pressure.

I use Michelin A1 for my road bikes for the same reason.

I have had terrible luck with Performance-branded tubes. They seemed to fail where the valve stem attaches to the tube. A few blew at installation.

Name brands, such as Continental, are not that much more expense and are often on sale online. When they are, I buy a bunch.

I recall Bicycling Mag a few years ago had an article on which items to buy cheap (socks, jersies) and which items to buy the name brand (tires, tubes, shorts). Might be a good thread to start.
