2009 Surly lht fair price
Sorry this is probably the wrong place. I found a 2009 long haul trucker, should be my size. All original except brooks saddle, in very nice condition very few blemishes. This bike still has the original rubber on it and it doesn’t even look bad.. Seller is asking 700, is this a fair price? Sorry again if I posted incorrectly

That bike was $1100 when it was bought eleven years ago so seven bills would be normally optimistic. With the pandemic the pricing is in range with what ever else is for sale out there. Not terrible not great as long as everything is in good condition and it fits.

Perhaps everything will need to be replaced soon(cables, housing, bar tape, tires, brake pads, cassette, chain) if its been ridden but take the care of. Or if it hasn't been ridden much, then the cost to get it road ready will be a lot less.
You mention its very nice condition, not sure if that applies just to cosmetic or if its mechanically very nice too.
If it fits and nothing needs to be replaced soon, that's a good deal. You won't find anything new of same quality for even a few hundred more.
At the same time, its the start of winter and demand has slowed, even in this pandemic market. Maybe ask to do $600 or so.

What size are you? What size is the bike? Original rubber after 11 years? Did the owner actually tour on it? Asking because I’ve been touring and commuting/getting around town on LHT’s since 2008.
BTW...Surly just discontinued the non-disc brake version.

Last year, I would have said no way. $500 tops. It might go for even more than $700 next year.

Unless you find a place that still has the old LHT in stock, you will never find another new one. As long as it is in good shape, and only you can tell, we can't see it, it isn't a bad deal right now. Try offering $600 and see what they say. All they can do is say no. But if you want it, be prepared to pay $700. The shutdowns have cause a prices of a lot of things to increase, and bikes are one of them, especially used.

So I bought it and it is beautiful... perfect paint, ride and shifts beautifully and silent. Even all the dreaded Surly stickers looked new, until I removed them lol. Been riding a lot mor now and adjusting and dialing it in for me. I paid the full 700 but I did get a nice set of rear panniers, bike computer and a pperfect Brooks B17 saddle. I’m thinking I’d like to add a little Brass or copper actually I’d like to replace every screw, bolt, washer, cable end, etc.... any suggestions on the best way to go about this. I’m imagining I’ll have to take off and measure at least one of everything.. Find all my sizes and start searching? Also anywhere that brass wouldn’t be safe ( brake hardware, chainring bolts). I’m leaning towards brass mostly because of the softness of copper. I’m also planning a custom brass rear rack, custom lights etc... Sorry for wrong side pic

There are 2 values on any product. What the seller thinks it's worth and what the buyer thinks it's worth.
If both of you are happy with the price, then you made out alright. I have over payed on somethings and was still happy with the purchase and I've under paid where I was disappointed.
I would have paid $700 on the spot, if I needed/wanted that touring bike.

Nice bike, good deal.
At one point I was considering a LHT. Was finding them under a year old and "hardly been ridden", often with a full set of unused panniers. That particular bike seems to draw more than it's share of good intentions.

As for copper or brass bits...why? If you want to change everything, just use stainless bolts so they dont rust. They are available at any hardware store Ive been to as well.
You can buy brass m5 bolts online which is what is used for bottle cages, racks, and fenders. A brass rear rack is...unique. What is the end goal for a brass rack...purely cosmetic?

I’m a welder by trade and the designing and fabricating of my own rack, will be a nice project. I also really like the way brass patinas. Brass also hardens with stress and vibration, non corrosive and doesn’t rust!

Isn't brass super heavy? Not a big deal until you have to haul your bike, your stuff, and yourself up a 10% grade. You might look for anodized parts like water bottle cages, pedals, and colored cable housings and hoods; you'd be surprised what a big impression accent colors can make. Personally, I wouldn't change out steel bolts for brass or copper due to strength concerns; frankly, they just fade into the background. But it's your bike, ride your own ride.

I agree about gold anodized looking weird, but Amazon didn't have anything in the way of copper. Also, Velo-Orange sells colored cable kits, including brown.
