JBL Flip 4 Ready to Roll...

built a shock mount out of 3/16" para-chord

parmesean cheese lids for end cups,

no more "on your left!" because you will hear me long before you see me,

bluetooth transmitter can be personal CD player, MP3 or FM tuner,

idea stolen from U47 condenser mic system,

, what say?

Making everyone hear your music on a mup is as lame as that one driver in line at a stoplight blaring music that thinks they are cool.

If you will be out be out away from everyone, sure blare the music if you feel the need. Again, ear buds would work perfectly in this situation, but at least blaring music won't annoy anyone.

If you don't want to call out 'on your left' on mups, then get a bell or ride roads.

Edited to add- its certainly a creative design.

I say: I don't want to hear you, and I'm sure no one else does, either.

Why is that? You asked what people think. I don’t want to hear your music either.

I was riding in the middle of the night with a couple of guys and I could hear the faint sound of the Smiths, it was freaking me out a little. Turns out one of them had a little speaker in a bento bag.

I used to ride mtb with someone that had a bluetooth speaker, not my favorite in the woods.

So let me get this straight cjenrick rides past me on the MUP and I hear his music for what 15 seconds and somehow this makes me angry, mad, sad, pissed off, can't believing I am the only one that should be allowed to use the MUP, how dare someone infringe on my individual rights of riding in peace and quiet, is that is what is getting you guys up in knots? Lighten up Francis. Cjenrick riding by playing his music is no different then those Harley's with radios, that can be heard at the sun or the convertible cars that drive by, or the pieces of crap at the car wash or gas pump who think these are private dance clubs blasting their music. We share the earth everyone, get use to it.

So cjenrick, nicely done and creative. For the love of god, I implore you not to ride in Des Moine, Nashville and I believe Indianapolis for fear of offending a few. Merry Christmas to you.

No one has ever passed me on an MUP. But epic rant. At least it’s the right season.

P.S. You neglected the jerk who blasts his music at stops like bathroom and water facilities like at Valley Forge National Historic Park.

Not too many people play music through speakers, except when riding along the beach path. Depending on what is being played, I do prefer it to the ongoing squeaking and grinding of an ill maintained bike.

It can't be denied that there is a certain coolness of an out of shape baby boomer riding along on a half rusted cruiser in all of its glory blasting out classic rock as the tire brushes the chainstay on every rotation.

Ingenious adaptation. Would I broadcast my tunes? no. I wear one earbud on the non-traffic side, which works for me.

I only become a grumpy old man when hearing music when hiking that some kids are blasting away. Out in the woods with nature it just seems sac religious. On the streets with all the noise that goes with it, I have no issue.

You're right, a mod and I do have a difference of opinion regarding trolls. To the point though, riding with a boom box is like talking on your phone while standing in a checkout line or letting your kid be loud in a crowded restaurant or letting your dog bark at night. It's forcing yourself upon innocent others. It's rude.

I could use that for my night rides in the boonies to alert bears and wolves that I'm coming. When hiking I have a bell on my back pack that jingles with each step to alert the wildlife and then a friend ask me if that was a dinner bell. (Here comes lunch) Until you've un-intentionally snuck up on a momma bear with cubs, or a big cat minding it's own business, you can't appreciate carrying a blaring speaker with you in the wilderness.

i have a solution... a brilliant one

stand at the entrance, get a list of favorite songs of people who are going to be along the way. When you pass them, play the song they have requested. That way, u get to show off your boom-box and others get the music they want. DONE.

otherwise, well, its already a dead horse

Clever. Most of my friends with bike boomboxes stuff 'em in their bottle cage. But I don't think they're using the JBL Flip series -- those models look like the grilles would be damaged by most bottle cages. I'll have to check more closely next casual group ride to see what they're using.

I have some soft, flexible plastic bottle cages from 50Strong that probably wouldn't damage a Bluetooth speaker but probably would need a leash to retain them on rough roads. Good cages for only about $5.

Why do you think people want to hear those Harley's?

Sharing most definitely does not mean imposing what you want on everyone else. Or did you miss that part of Kindergarten?
