Creative cable guide mount
So, when I stripped the frame for Cerakote, the plastic push in piece ended up getting destroyed. This is my first actual build from a bare frame. I was paranoid about a bolt being to long. I do decorative knot work as a smaller hobby as well, so decided to do a bot here.
The black is Jimalax cordage. It is the same construction as paracord, but with a much tighter weave in the outside shell. This makes it stiffer and much more abrasion resistant. The pink is just standard braided mason line. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a48815b491.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c58931411d.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...233c97dec1.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...85c034eb37.jpg |
I read thru this a few times and am lost. What is the pink braided cord for?

Ok. I dont see it in the partially built pic, wasn't sure if its hidden then?
So will the braid dangle down under the BB then? |

I might do some navy style hitching under the bar tape to hold housings in place and had a touch of bulk above the hoods. Considering some double moku hitching on drive side chainstay to help protect from chain slapping around. Granted, it is a road bike, but have some pretty rough sections of road here.
Will you carry a fid in your saddlebag? |
I thought that hole was to allow moisture to escape the bottom bracket? I guess it might now as water will travel down the cord.

Double face tape. Cables ultimately hold it.

Another option is a piece of cable housing under the BB. I have a chain stay U brake from the late 80s. No chain guide when I bought the frame four or five years ago. I have a cable stop a few inches up the down tube from the BB and run the brake cable though a piece of housing that runs from there under the BB. The housing is only needed as a guide and stays in place just fine.

Is that your sister's bike?

Short self taping sheet metal screw works fine. Generally, it’s not long enough to interact with the spindle.

as long as whatever is inserted in the BB cavity doesn't exceed the length of the original destroyed plastic part, it should theoretically work without a hitch.
