Low rider pannier question
Does anyone have a rough idea how much stiffer a set of lowriders make a front fork feel?
Particularly with a low trail fork.
Particularly with a low trail fork.

They will generally probably feel like paint if painted or carbon if carbon but usually that is clear coated so maybe clear coat. In terms of riding it can effect steering but some people like it up front. I would give it a go. Just make sure you have a fork that can handle a rack

I don't know that it makes steering stiffer, but it'll make the front end a little more 'floppy'; you won't be able to ride 'no-hands'. I've tried it with a number of different forks (lo-trail and others) and the fork/front end seems to want to 'flop' to one side of the other. It'll do it less with a lower center of gravity or lighter loads.

Do you mean how much “sluggish” the steering will feel? Is so, whatever the degree, you will learn to compensate for it. Ride enough with panniers and you will get used to it.

I should clarify my question a bit. Low trail with a French flip should add some suspension springiness. Do lowriders counteract the innate springiness or do the forks flex with the lowriders?

People say the racks make a difference in springiness. I haven't tried it yet. I imagine that a loaded pannier would dwarf the difference that the rack makes.

I did not notice a difference, but before hand I turned up the suspension to give less bounce. I've read a lot of theories on this forum, of what a load on the forks will do, but I have not witnessed any.

I've only had experience with low riders on my touring bikes, and they are pretty stable. I have used them on a cyclocross bike, and they also worked well on it.
