Jersey pocket for me. And even though the phone is supposed to be waterproof, I put it in a ziplock bag. Otherwise, sweat collects between the Otterbox window and the screen and I have to take the whole dang thing apart to clean it off before it dries and leaves a salty crust.

And take photos, and as a backup navigator when I’m touring and to keep in touch when I’m gone for a while and to possibly call for assistance if something bad happens and to call places like campgrounds and motels to check on availability.

Yep. When I tour I don’t always want to take out the “real” camera for every shot. Plus, it’s very easy to share photos during the trip. Text them to friends and even post them on BF when there is access. Insecurity has nothing to do with it.

Left front pant pocket with my keys
I wear jeans or jean shorts 99.999% of my life, on and off the bike. I leave the wearing of lycra skin suits to you all . . .
Also, I wear men's Levi's 511s (even though I'm a female). Don't get me started on the sexist BS of the clothing industry and their stupidly small pockets for women's pants.

I don't wear jerseys...
I keep my phone in a handlebar bag - or in the pocket of my NON-cycling (hiking) shorts. Hiking shorts are worn for rides of under an two hours or so (35-40 miles) If on a longer ride, I'll wear padded cycling shorts under the hiking shorts. I like my pockets! ...AND I want to look somewhat 'normal' if I walk into a convenience store along the way for a beverage/snack...

... on your drop bar road bike? I'm really tempted to just leave the damn thing at home when I go riding, but the advantages of taking it definitely outweigh the disadvantages. But where to attach/store it so it isn't an ugly eyesore? Attached to the stem on a Quadlock or similar mount? Practical, but boy does it look ugly. Maybe stuffed in your back jersey pocked where it can get all steamed up with sweat? Hmm not ideal. Attached somewhere else on the bike? Suggestions?

OP here. I find it interesting to read about how others do things, so I for one am enjoying both the fact that many here at BF are willing to reply about such a "senseless topic" and reading the replies themselves. Isn't that what these kind of forums are for?

"Snack" sized ziplocs are a perfect fit, and though phone is waterproof, worth using to keep the salt/corrosion at bay. Happy with the thumb print unlock too, as it works through the baggie, while I had issues with my last phone's face detection/camera being able to do the same.

As I now have 11 bikes, road, touring, mtn, drops, flat bar, etc, and ride year round so a wide variety of clothing combinations, I decided I needed ONE solution for key things like the phone and the tool/tube kit. And at my age it's just a good idea to always have the phone on a ride. How stupid to badly need some help but have left behind the one small thing that could get me that help. I also decided that the phone and keys had to stay with me at all times, not on the bike. My choice was a waist pack originally purchased from REI for hiking. It appears that these things are now called "fanny packs" but a skinny old fart like me barely got no fanny so "waist pack" will do.
Phone, keys, bit of trail mix, a couple of other odds and ends are in the waist pack. Same thing every ride on every bike. The tools, tube, pump, etc are in a canvas sack lashed to the saddle rails, same thing every ride on every bike. Habits for important things make life easier. And it's paid off. A couple of years ago my wife had an emergency and could reach me. Last week I had a flat and had everything I needed to repair and resume.

Ever since I landed on my phone and wallet and it broke some ribs, I no longer carry it in my jersey. Fluke maybe, but I don't take that chance again if I have another way to carry it.

I'm a long-time commuter and bike in golf shorts with a belt. I carry my phone in a holster on the belt on my right. The latest holster/holder has extra pockets. I use them for credit card and driver'l license (ID).
That's it on my right hip in the photo.

Back right jersey pocket, screen away from body, charging port down so sand doesn't fall in the port from above and get lodged in there (I learned that one the hard way). This goes for all rides: commutes, road, gravel, mtb.
