Where do you keep your cell phone while riding...
... on your drop bar road bike? I'm really tempted to just leave the damn thing at home when I go riding, but the advantages of taking it definitely outweigh the disadvantages. But where to attach/store it so it isn't an ugly eyesore? Attached to the stem on a Quadlock or similar mount? Practical, but boy does it look ugly. Maybe stuffed in your back jersey pocked where it can get all steamed up with sweat? Hmm not ideal. Attached somewhere else on the bike? Suggestions?

Or leave it at home and ride the way we all did until recently.

Absent any on-bike storage options, Jersey pocket. Ziploc sandwich bag optional.

Reluctantly, in a holder on the bars, right next to the stem.
It looks so much cleaner without it, but I don’t like the weight of having it in a jacket pocket (and I don’t wear cycling jerseys). While I don’t care about looking at it for stats during a ride, I just want it with me in case of emergency, so...
Maybe I’ll look into an under-seat bag. I’m not crazy about them either.

Newer, top-line phones are very water resistant, certainly enough to be fine in a jersey pocket, even in the rain. The iPhone 12 is IP68 rated, for example, so resistant enough to withstand 20ft submerged in water for 30 minutes, pressure far in excess of what it could ever see in the back jersey pocket during a storm.
I’m a dandy, though, and use a Silca Phone Wallet because it looks good, feels good, and helps me keep organized the little things I carry but which don’t live on the bike, like ID, emergency contact, and credit cards, as well as eyeglass wipes, some cash, a GU pack or two, face mask and a couple alcohol wipes. It’s way nice not having the mask get all damp from a jersey pocket, because that sh*t is gross.
The Silca pouch does have a fixed dry bag, but it’s a *****-and-a-half getting my iP11PM in and out of it. It fits perfectly, and the bag has a clear face through which you can operate the phone, but the way the vinyl films on the phone means you really have to work to wiggle it free, which is too much hassle for unnecessary protection.
The big deal for me is that the wallet neatly collects little stuff I want handy, and saves me from having to remember loose items before each ride, but even out of the drybag and just zipped in the wallet, the wallet offers a nice measure of crash protection to the phone, so I appreciate that, too.

Jersey pocket, my phone is waterproof, so no worries there. The camera will occasionally be sweaty/fogged up if I want to take a picture, no biggie.

Mine is in a zipper bag with my wallet and that goes in my back jersey pocket. I want my phone to be with me just in case I get separated from my bike and can't crawl back up the embankment because my legs are broken. Scouts motto-- be prepared (though I wasn't a scout very long)

In jersey pocket. Had an issue ONCE.
Some phones have security setting default to FULL RESET phone after 15 failed attempts. Some phones allow a double tap to open. Both of these settings can be adjusted by the user so you can avoid my misfortune.
This combination not good if you happen to put the screen towards your sweaty back by accident.
Had this perfect storm of conditions a few months ago. Got home and phone had done a full factory reset. Lost all my settings and other stuff. PITA.
Adjust either one and no worries.
Seems the bouncing of screen tapping my damp back made more than 15 attempts to open phone. Phone followed settings instruction to full reset. Grrrr

For local rides it stays at home. Everybody around you will have a cell so isn't really needed.
On multiple day tours in the trunk bag on the rear rack. I keep it turned off when actually riding to keep the battery from going dead in regions of low cell service.

I needed one for other stuffs so I got one with a clear window on the top and Velcro flaps on the inside the lid for holding it. Even came with a decent little power bank.
