It's not the top consideration, but it's one of the things I care about. I like to get off the bike at the end of a ride sometimes and just look at the bike for a moment. But if it doesn't fit, doesn't shift well, if it doesn't FEEL good to ride it, appearance is irrelevant. A bicycle is primarily a mechanism designed for a purpose. If it fulfills that purpose AND looks nice, it's a thing of beauty. If it fulfills the purpose and looks like crap, it's still good. If it looks great but doesn't fulfill the purpose, it's a turd.

I'm sure you're not the only one, but I'm not one of you.
My newest bike is red. Its fenders are red. My cycling shoes are red. My next newest bike, a MTB, is red. My next next next newest bike is red. My unicycle is red. My commuter is grey, but its secondary job is to avoid being stolen. My wife's new car is red; I don't own a car, but I do have some car buying influence 😄. The shirt in wearing right now is red. I'm 60, fwiw.

If I were a mature male (as evidenced by my post above) I would not care about color but just ergonomics and performance. But I have always had an artistic and creative side where color, light, shadow and contrast can either make or break a piece. So color to me IS important especially when I plunk down an ungodly amount of money (at least for me) on a bike. If it was a cheap bike to serve as ‘transportation’ then I wouldn’t care.

I'm 61, and while my tastes run towards the more subdued, I'd be lying if I said I didn't care about how my bikes looked. Maybe it's a holdover from my restaurant days, but I appreciate a thoughtful presentation.

Ha, I'm the guy who started the colour thread, and I don't care about the colour of the bikes I ride. I am, however, interested in colour and aesthetics. Also I wanted to see whether such an innocuous topic would degenerate into an unpleasant mud-slinging contest like many of the threads on BF.

That's me, I guess. A student of colour and personality.

Bait and snitch?

Have to agree that too many innocent threads degenerate into ugliness. There is absolutely no reason why people can’t be decent, but the thread still has time to get into the mud.

No snitching from me. And the original colour thread has been peaceful throughout.

Now that you mention that, I remember years ago on another bike site, some dude had a Trek painted green and silver fade. Called it Peppermint Patty. Was a really cool looking bike. I'll have to agree with you on this one!

But I certainly would not pick a bike because of the color or not pick a bike because of the color.

100,000 miles... impressive.

Alright man, I publicly apologize for being a little rough on you. You came back pretty civil and no reason we can't be friends! I should not have gone all ghetto in the thread. We'll have more fun if we just all get along, emojis and all!

I don't want to advertise anything that suggests I'm a freak. Lots of nasty bullies out there and I would rather not attract their attention. No hot pink, no rainbows. I'll ride a wide range of 'normal' color bikes tho'.

I’m entering middle and age don’t ride on the road so I don’t care about color. I call my bike the “gray ghost.” It blends right in on winter rides.

I still have to take off the reflectors and dork disk though. It’s a dad thing. 😉

When I was ordering my custom frameset, they asked what color I wanted. I really couldn't decide, so I told them to just apply some clear coat.
Have to admit, the result wasn't what I expected.
Only got to ride it a couple of times. I parked it somewhere, and can't find it.

My last car purchase I bought what I consider the ugliest of my choices. It beat out all the others for ride, comfort, utility, space, interior and value. Everytime I walk out to it I think what an ugly car, but then I start driving and I just don't care.

The last time I bought a bike (the same year as my last car) I also cared more about how it felt and less about how it looked, although, I like the way my bike looks.

When I started shopping for my last new bike, I was mainly looking at functional qualities but I did have one criteria related to color and that was that it would not be matte black. Any bike only available in matte black was passed over regardless of anything else.

So I suppose I don't care about the color of my bike but do care that it has color.
