I have a serial number of M6-j4098 on a Shogun ACB1. Can anyone tell me what is the date of mfg.? I think it may be early eighties?

Serial numbers many times don't encode anything in them. If the manufacturer is still in business, they'd be your best to ask. If they aren't in business, then look for a Shogun fan club site. Maybe someone started a list of SN's and the years associated with them, or knows the decode table.
If it has original components on it, that might help picking a year or range of years.
You can upload a pic to the Gallery here and maybe someone looking at it can tell you something. Though the Classic and Vintage forum might have more people familiar with old stuff browsing threads.
